Today it's 65 years ago that the United States of America, by executive order of President Harry S. Truman, dropped the nuclear weapon "Little Boy" on the city of Hiroshima.
on August 6, 1945, at 8:15 am, Hiroshima became the first city in history that was destroyed by a nuclear weapon.

Today (January 20) it's the date of Inauguration Day!

Quote
The inauguration of the President of the United States occurs upon the commencement of a new term of a President of the United States.

This day, now known as Inauguration Day, was on March 4 from 1793 until 1933. Since then, Inauguration Day has occurred on January 20 (the 1933 ratification of the Twentieth Amendment changed the start date of the term).

Today it's one year ago that Spain won the World Cup final against the Netherlands.  :P

I'm still very happy and proud that the Dutch national team did so well in South Africa.

Interesting list, Niko.  :) Ukraine is indepent for 21 years now. And remarkable that kissing was forbidden in England in 1439.

The most sad thing is the arrest of Jews in Paris and the transportation of Jews from the Netherlands to extermination camp. Unbelievable that it happened on the same day! A dark time in European history. I always have very much respect for the people who lived during that period and who suffered from the things that happened during that time. I think that this forum is a tiny and good example that people from different nations can get along very well.  ;)

I haven't read anything about the ban being lifted. Hmm... let me think. I've only been in England once, did I kiss there?  :P

By the way, I will go to London this summer and I will visit the Premier League football match between Chelsea and West Bromwich Albion on 20 August!  London is a great city, I love it.
