Voting system
« on: May 31, 2009, 08:36:33 PM »
Let's talk about the voting system.

Only the juries gave points from 1956 till 1996.
In 1997 the televoting system was introduced in 5 countries. Austria, Switzerland, Germany, United Kingdom and Sweden used televote.
In the final of the ESC 2009, the votes from each country were decided by a combination of 50% televoting results and 50% national jury.

I voted for only juries, because jury members are professionals in music and they can notice better everything than a normal televoter. Also, jury members can vote only one time, which does not distort the results the same way than televoters who can vote several times for one song.

I voted for Juries+televoters because if televoters would not be allowed to vote and contribute to the esc history this way the contest would lose most of his fans. ESC would be just another show to watch.

Juries are meant to make sure that the contest will not turn into a cheap popularity contest.  :)

I doubt between juries+televoters and only juries.  :worry:

With televoting the people are more involved in the contest. It's fun that you can vote for your personal favorite.
But there is also the other side: countries who profit every year from neighbour voting.

I think that the voting system this year worked very well.

this is an ok argument but when we look at the juries results, apart from Iceland 2nd, Uk 3rd, France 4th, Israel 7th, Estonia and Bosnia did well too and Malta doing well, they did'nt vote just for ballads.. Norway was the juries' favorite! Denmark was a surprising 6th and Germany 13th!

Being an ESC purist I voted for Juries only.  Perhaps if that happened we'd stop the influx of crappy songs like Düm tek tek getting totally undeserved good results.

I will have to vote for televoting then, because Dum Tek Tek ended up being so good, even though everyone thinks it's so undeserving, I don't at all, I  it.
Trashy doesn't mean crappy :P Classy doesn't mean good (eg France)

After seeing the results of the Dutch televoting this year (again 10 and 12 points to Armenia and Turkey, it's too predictable), I'm going for only juries.

Televoters can also vote mutiple times, so I think it's better when only juries bring out their votes.

A friend of mine voted for Turkey this year without even watching the whole show

totally agreed Remy.. televoting is wrong wrong wrong because it's unfair and purely political now, whether some people admit it or not.. and give no rooms for other genres..

Totally agree.. as the ridiculous amount of votes for Turkey, Armenia & Greece in the last few years shows.
