I decided to unlock this thread. That way it is easier for everyone to write comments, tell if some songs are missing or if there is a song in the list which actually hasn't participated ETC etc.

I hope this thread is good for all of us who are now in ETC or who wants to join it in the future.

wow, france won 4 times when the other countries barely have won sometimes 2 victories.. i'm surprised spain and sweden have never won it

I must say I'm not too surprised Spain haven't won....other than a few songs on both sides of the "good" scale they've been unexceptional - although 2 masterpieces have been used in ETC so far for Spain IMO.

Sweden is perhaps a little more surprising....until you consider the people on the forum. None of us are really "schlager-lovers" as such so perhaps that would explain it.

i really don't like spain in eurovision, especially modern esc, but they have done so well in old forum, and actually even i have them quite fairly enough in the top 10 in the oldies, but yes, none are masterpiece likes.. Spain is only my winner once, but the song hasn't been used yet so..

actually you're right, that's not that surprising but I must admit Sweden is in my top 10 fave esc countries definitely.. because if you put aside the schlager craps, you have so many fine songs (just listen to the 60s or some in the 80s)..

another thing we MUST take in consideration is that the songs are unfairly spread out, sometimes many masterpieces were in and there were some obvious winners.. no one could have beat Amina or Patricia, and that's definitely unfair if there were as good songs in that edition..

For me Sweden have rarely been great....they've rarely been horrific....they've sent decent listenable somewhat unexceptional songs most of the time. They've been in my top 10 about 25 times over the years....but only TWICE in the top 3 (and that was a win in 1962 and a 3rd place in 1996).

Finland not winning is just a testament to Finnish ESC entries. It seems that there's only a blessed few of us who appreciate them for what they are....underrated masterpieces.

Your final point is also valid. There's been a couple of editions with no real masterpiece in them....and a few with more than one.

i love 62 but nothing can beat isabelle
sweden is amazing in 66-67 and 58, 68, 69 and 73 are great.. then come the schlager years, but i do love Bjorn Skifs a lot (he's my winner in 81) and "Just nu" is quite fun too.. 84, 85, 86, 87, 88, 89 and even the weaker song in 90 are all decent efforts in rather low esc years.. and then 93, 94, 95, 96, 99 are nice.. i don't mind 03, 04, 05 and i really love The Ark so Sweden is a really good esc country in the end
