EUROVISION SONG CONTEST 1990, ZAGREB, YUGOSLAVIA


With the country in turmoil and on the brink of war a lot of countries seized the opportunity to send songs with messages of unity, peace and understanding.  The success of these messages covered the entire scoreboard from 1st to last.  The contest got off to a false start as the singers for the Spanish entry walked off stage because they couldn't hear the backing track.  In a clever move considering the location the Italian entry used former Yugoslav entrants Pepel in Kri (1975) as his backing group.  Ketil Stokkan returned for Norway 4 years after coming 12th he fared a lot less well this time around finishing equal last.  Icelandic duo Stjornin returned a couple of years later as members of Heart2Heart.  The female half, Sigga, returned again a further 2 years later as a solo artist.  Serge Gainsbourg was back for a final attempt to win again as a composer this time as composer of the French entry.  The voting was uneventful with Italy taking the lead with the first set of votes.  They relinquished for a while to Ireland after the Icelandic votes only to regain it after the Irish failed to help their own cause by awarding Italy their 12 points.  Italy were more helpful to their own cause by completely ignoring both the Irish and French entries.

well no wonder, this is a very cliche typical fans-like list of a top 5

and Yugoslavia 1990 is one of the worst **** ever
a madonna-wanna be huge WHORE shaking it all over WHINING on stage is a disgrace to music, how could this get more than 0? an insult to all the other singers there!

quite evidently, your only surprising one in these 5, Finland, is also the only one we truly have in common, as Finland's only try in Swedish is my 3rd of a very week year.

are you trying to provoke me? lol :P
you could have picked any any any esc years you had to pick 1990 and 1991, the two years I seriously can't consider any other esc winners but my own country! tsk...!

Haha  :laugh: No, I'm not trying to provoke you. The reason that I picked 1990 & 1991 yesterday was that I listened to some entries from these years.

I understand what you hate about Yugoslavia, but I disagree with it. For me it's just a good song. I like to listen to it.

Yeah! Finally we have something in common :P A disgrace that the juries (from Iceland and Israel) only give 8 points to Fri?. Even Sweden didn't give a single point to Finland.
