For the purposes of this chart I have given last place to the UK for 2008 using the EBUs own system for breaking ties.

poor Finland, Lithuania, Spain, Malta, Sweden! None deserved it last night, unlike Albania or Croatia who got their usual balkan help :talktothehand:

Actually Finland was not last in ESC 2009!  :biggrin: It was 25th out of 42 songs.  :innocent:  ;)

Unfortunately for statistical and historical purposes it was last....because it does say in my first post

I wrote that (finals only) bit almost 2 years ago....and remember I had to add a last place to my own country last year too :cry: :)

well didn't the uk share the last place with germany and poland last year? i mean i know that the rules say otherwise, but still to memory's mind all three hit the bottom

Nope it was all ours - because our highest mark was an 8 (from Ireland), Poland's was a 10 (also from Ireland) and Germany's was a 12 (thanks to them having a Bulgarian member it came from Bulgaria) :irked:

that rule in esc does not really apply. It only does to separate winners. Come on, both poland and germany were way worse than the uk last year!

It does apply.  EBU don't want any tied places....which is why we were officially 4th in 2002 despite having the same points as Estonia....and also why Spain are 24th this year despite having the same points as Lithuania (because Lithuania got points from more countries)

i remember a few years ago when they said it only applied for winners so that they wouldn't divide france / ireland 90 actually based on the simple fact that back then the rules were different. If we were to apply now the rules, we wouldn't get the exact same results. So it's rather sad they won't apply the rule for older years but would NOW. But if they want to..
