Topic: Does your country really want to host Eurovision ?

I was watching the 2003 Belgian ESC entry on YouTube and I came across this comment :

I'm actually quite glad we didn't win, not because Turkey was better (it wasn't!) but I don't want to have another tax increase to raise funds to organise a Eurovision Song Contest! Besides, Urban Trad has had a bigger hit with this than Sertab...

Disregard the "who's better" comments and tell us what you think. We all know at least 1 ESC moment when 1 jury changed its votes just because that country didn't want to host ESC.

Hope you're right. I love Ireland in Eurovision.
but .... do you think that Moldova would like to host ESC ?

To be honest i think all the big countries wont to host eurovision(mostly the ones which wont to increase  tourism at their countries....something which happened after we hosted Eurovision).
Eurovision the last years is a HUGE event with milionsssssssss of viewers arround the world and not a simple event.
Iam sure at the past some countries were winning only because no others were interested doing it(or couldnt offer the money to do it...).
OFCOURSE at every country there are people who dont wont to host not only eurovision but other events also(imagine there was about 30%/i think Greeks which didnt wont to host the Olympic Games...).
Since televoting is used any country can win(yes iam sure with juries this couldnt happen)....even a country which isnt so strong(like Ukraine...remember the gossips saying they wont be able to host the event e.t.c but they did a great job).

Turkey wants to host it one more time. So, TRT has sent 3 very famous singers after Sertab. It is shame none of them could do well. I loved Sibel and Athena, though

If Andorra think they can host the Olympics, they can host the Eurovision.

I am sure that Romanians want to win, but dunno that TVR wants and first reason to think is that we don't have a good venue for this. The only soution is to make one new venue in less than one year and that mean many money which TVR is not ready to give. Probably our mayor will do something.

If Belgium wants to host the Eurovision SC. They'd better do it here at the Sports Palace in Antwerp.
It's huge. And it's like 20 minutes by bus from my house

TVR will come to talk with him for sure. They really don't have a location. And Oprescu, probably with  the Gouvern will make a great venue for this. They will not be able to refuse it.

I really don't think the BBC wanna host it again - and judging by our recent entries I definitely think they don't care.  It would be interesting to see what happens this year though as some thought is going into it.

After the war in Georgia told Estonia that they dont go in Eurovision...
But after more days people thought about that and now we also host...
We have also a new Eurovision produzer here in Estonia

France wouldn't mind hosting it. Our president loves the fact that France is a big important country, and therefore he'd love to see it as a huge event here.. but the channel has no money and can't really come up with anything decent for France at esc..

I don't think that Finland would be ready to host another ESC for a long time. Everybody in Finland still remembers how expensive it was to host them in 2007. And especially in an economical situation where very many European countries are just now, investing in  ESC hosting would not be among the most important things. I seriously think that ESC has same problem than Olympic Games: hosting any of them is way too expensive for most of the countries.

That could be a factor in the BBC's reluctance to take the contest seriously...the fact that we have the Olympics in 2012.

and the UK really doesn't have any money to spend on Olympics. I hope that will teach you a lesson on having your prime minister getting into a private office with the head of CIO and offering him god knows what and then beating Paris the hot favorite by three votes..

we all in the esc community still consider Helsinki 2007 as the best best best best of all modern esc hosting. It's the 00's equivalent to Goteborg 1985 of the 80's.. too bad Finland is not ready for more.

Wasn't it all a mistake anyway and someone who thought they'd voted for Madrid actually voted for London and eliminated Madrid in an earlier round - if Madrid had gone through then Paris would definitely (and rightly) won.

well yes that's one of the "official stories"
another thing is that the CIO often is highly highly paid and some dark money always disappears. Paris wanted to put an end to this all. Apparently they had a very very open and clear budget. And that wasn't really enjoyed by the CIO. But we'll never know. What I know is that everyone everywhere kept mentioning how Paris was a favorite, and since Paris hasn't hosted it since the 1920's! it was a good time for it. But then we all know that Tony Blair got in a secret meeting and then next days the vote happened and people were surprised that 3 votes different would make it go to London.
I think the UK is still a great choice (after all Spain had Barcelona and even if Chicago is nice they already had Los Angeles and Atlanta almost in a row!).. I like the UK ways to host things lately it's been well handled. I hope for a lot deal of british insanity and humor (well except for ESC hostings which sucked in 72, 77, 82, 98.. wow I guess after Mrs Boyle stopped it).. Still Paris is a really great city which I love living in and I would have loved sharing it with the world for two weeks. I liked a lot the project they had, having competitions right down in the city in the Champs-Elysees, the Seine river, and all the idea of having it completely unlike Beijing very careful of nature, brotherhood and all.. but oh well..
