Today the whole world got very sad news. Benazir Bhutto has been assassinated at the age of 54. She  was a Pakistani politician and  the first woman elected to lead a Muslim state, having been twice elected Prime Minister of Pakistan. She was sworn in for the first time in 1988 but removed from office 20 months later under orders of then-president Ghulam Ishaq Khan on grounds of alleged corruption. In 1993 Bhutto was re-elected but was again removed in 1996 on similar charges, this time by President Farooq Leghari.

Bhutto went into self-imposed exile in Dubai in 1998, where she remained until she returned to Pakistan on 18 October 2007, after reaching an understanding with General Musharraf by which she was granted amnesty and all corruption charges were withdrawn.

She was the eldest child of former premier Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, a Pakistani of Sindhi descent, and Begum Nusrat Bhutto, a Pakistani of Iranian-Kurdish descent. Her paternal grandfather was Sir Shah Nawaz Bhutto who came to Larkana Sindh before partition from his native town of Bhatto Kalan which was situated in the Indian state of Haryana.

She was assassinated on 27 December 2007, in a combined suicide bomb attack and shooting during a political rally of the Pakistan Peoples Party in the Liaquat National Bagh in Rawalpindi.[2] Ex-government spokesman Tariq Azim Khan said that, although it appeared that she had been shot, it was unclear whether her wounds had been caused by a shooting or shrapnel from the bomb.

When you told me the news I didn't realize who were you talking about.  :o
So sad that so many people fall into hate like that. Taking the life of a fellow human being is the lowest thing one could ever do. There's no excuse for such actions.

I feel sorry for Benazir and Pakistan.  :( May she rest in peace !

SANTA  CLAUS LEAVING FINLAND AND MOVING TO KYRGYSZTAN?

According to the latiest news Santa Claus is said to leave Finland so quickly that the jingle-bells are  tinkling. Kyrgysztan has already named a mountain to Santa Claus and they have owned  him the year 2008! Kyrgysztan is already planning an international Santa Claus meeting and competition.

"We will improve tourism and Santa Claus is an idealistic brand for it, which will help us in our efforts.", says tourist officer Nurhon Tadzhibayeva from Kyrgysztan in an interview which was done by news agency AP.

This all thing got started when a Swedish consulting bureau calculated, that Kyrgysztan would be the best possible living place for Santa Claus, if he wants to deliver all the Christmas presents during the Christmas night!

Now we will see what is going to happen - and will reindeers, elfs and Santa Claus's wife stay in Finland, on Korvatunturi hill. Only time will show!

France to seek aid workers return from Chad
Thursday, 27 December 2007 15:40

The French government has said it will seek the repatriation of the six members of the aid group Zoe's Ark.

Under the terms of a judicial cooperation agreement they would be allowed to serve their sentences in France.

France does not force prisoners to perform hard labour.

Yesterday they were sentenced to eight years hard labour for attempting to kidnap 103 African children and fly them out of Chad to Europe.

Chad says it would have to approve any relaxation of the sentences of the activists if they are repatriated to France.

The six members of the aid group were arrested in October.

The rapid conclusion of the trial, which opened less than a week ago, has led to media speculation in France that a deal between the two governments has already been struck

Zoe's Ark is an independent organisation formed in 2004 to help provide relief during the Asian tsunami. It is believed to have about 50 active volunteers.

The Chad operation, which the group said was planning to secure a better future for children orphaned by the war in Darfur, was widely condemned as amateurish in France but there was shock at the severity of the sentences.

The incident has angered many in Chad who saw the operation as a continuation of the colonial policies of their country's former ruler France.

I wish the French voluntary workers would be send to France as soon as possible. I read in the newspaper that they got false information about the origins of the children whom they tried to take to France.

Especially the immigration has increased the population. During 2007, 25 900 immigrants have moved to Finland. The figure is the biggest since Finland got its independency in 1917. In 2007 the number of emigrants has been 12 400.

MORMON CHURCH IN TAMPERE, FINLAND BURNT DOWN IN AN ARSON

The mormon church in Tampere (Finland) was burnt down this morning. The local fire department was alarmed at about 5 a.m. this morning. 17 fire engines have been fighting against the fire this whole morning but still, the whole chuch was burnt down. According to police, 4 youngsters were seen near the mormon church last night and it is most probable that question is about an arson. The local representative of Mormon community estimated that the damages are about 4 million euros. Mormon church in Tampere was  not insured.

The reason why I wanted to write about this is that I have been watching the fire through my window the whole morning.  :o

There is a huge forest fire near Tampere (that's my city) in Finland. Firemen have tried to do everything they can do, but still with no success. On the contrary, the fire is just spreading out because of the warm weather. The original reason for the fire is not yet known.

Lordi got a lot for a detached house

The city council of Rovaniemi
(in northern Finland) decided today to grant mr. Lordi, Tomi Putaansuu,  a lot for a detached house today. The size of the lot is about 1 hectare and it is located about 20 kilometers to south from the center of Rovaniemi city. Rovaniemi is the capital of Finnish Lapland and also the birth and living city of Lordi.

There has already been Lordi Square in the middle of Rovaniemi about a year now.

ALL KIND OF STRANGE THINGS CAN HAPPEN!

Viking Isabella, one of the ferrys between Finland and Sweden, had just left Turku harbour, Finland, and it was passing the narrowest place of the route, Ruissalo. There very many people as usual on the deck and one of them was a little 7 years old girl. Suddenly she fell down and started crying. Why? The reason was very strange: Two men were playing golf on the courtyard of a villa, which was located near the seashore and the other one of those guys had shot the golfball a little bit too far - straight to the head of that little girl on the deck of Viking Isabella!  :o

Accidents can of course happen to everyone, but this is the strangiest accident  I have read about for ages.

After the first-aid which was given by the doctor on the ferry, the little girl could happily continue her trip with parents.

THE MOST EXPENSIVE FOOD BASKETS OF EUROPE IN FINLAND

According to the today released researchment, the most expensive food of Europe is here in Finland. Aamulehti, a Finnish newspaper, compared prises of everyday food in 9 EU countries + in Russia.

Countries were Finland, Sweden, Estonia, Russia, Italy, Belgium, Ireland, Great Britain, Spain and Germany.

The products which were bought in every country were:
milk (1 ltr)
tomatoes (1 kg)
cucumber (1 kg)
bananas (1 kg)
oranges (1 kg)
apples (1 kg)
coffee (0,5 kg)
wheat flour (2 kg)
beef (tenderloin) (1 kg)
beef (minced meat) (1 kg)
cheese (1 kg)
rice (1 kg)
macaroni (1 kg)
sugar (1 kg)

And what did the food basket cost in all of those countries:

Finland: € 85,89
Sweden: € 74,36
Estonia: € 36.63
Russia: € 20, 80 (meat products are not in the list, because they were not found)
Italy: € 68,85
Belgium: € 55,91
Ireland: € 68,57
Great Britain: € 58,12
Spain: € 37,06
Germany: € 34,57

So, as you see, food was most expensive in Finland and cheapest in Germany. You can get the same food basket with €51,32 cheaper price in Germany than in Finland. It is great to live in Finland.

Yes, I have heard about the Fritzi guy of Austria. It is most shocking that a man can lock up his daughter for 24 years and rape her several times - and then he will get only 10 years !

Is there any humanity in this world - or are juries coming from outer space?  :-\

Things like these piss me off so bad. it makes me think, what if it happens to one of our relatives, or to us, and the one who did it gets away with it. Then it's better that we take action instead of the court, because they don't do anything

I give you a good example from Finland

A couple of years one guy  went to a shop and started demanding money by keeping a knife in his hand. The shop-keeper did not give it to him but took the knife out of the robber's hand and forced him to lie on the floor while he was calling the police.

Finally the thing went to court - and what was the solution? The shop-keeper was fined because he had humiliated the robber and because he had taken away the robber's property (= knife) - but the robber was  released because there was no evidence that he wanted to rob money.  :irked:
