Question Round
« on: July 05, 2008, 03:08:18 PM »
I always liked this esc game but I never answered to any of the questions ... I did enjoy reading the answers though.

One request : please keep the questions as simple as you can at least for a while or else we risk not getting enough interested players in.  :P

Ok ...here's something I find quite interesting. What made the 1993 NF in Romania really different from all the other Romanian NFs ? It's something that never happend after 1993 and I doubt that it will ever happen again.
Disregard the fact that Romania didn't qualify for the ESC Final in 1993 and we had to wait one more year in order to make our official debut.

Let me guess: There was not only one winner in it, but there was a tie between 2 best songs?

it was voted out by an opinion institute of 1100 households (and in both Moldova and Romania)

Yes ! And that was a terrible decision coming from the Romanian broadcaster TVR .... from my point of view the best Romanian esc song ever didn't even make it to ESC because of that particular decision. Dida was wellknown in Moldova and Laurentiu was an anonymous at that time even in Romania. The singer won not the song and we all saw what happend with Dida's song.

You're next  :P

oh my, my turn.. hum what to say..
in 1966, in two french speaking countries the national final ended up with a tie of two songs.. which are these four songs and in both countries, how did they choose the song that finally managed to be sung at esc?

Was the decision made because Dominique was the son of Michele Arnaud who sang for Luxembourg in 1956 - and the 66 contest was held in Luxembourg.

well it's even more mysterious than that. Not that the contest was held in Luxembourg, but that Michele Arnaud was member of the French jury that year.. and people don't think that's fair..
wel that's ONE done.. who will find the story for the other country?

since no one knows, ill say that ijem you won this one, it's your turn.
the correct answer was: Monaco, with tied Isabelle Aubret's "Le Bonheur" and the winning song and Tereza's "Bien plus fort".. the princess Grace herself, head of the jury for the whole esc period, said that both songs were of equal quality and it was best to give her chance to an unknown singer, so Tereza went instead of esc 62 winner and esc 68 3rd Isabelle Aubret.. Monaco ended last of 1966 with 0pt and France ended 14th with 1pt.. would these two countries, both used of much better results (France had always been in the top 5 before that), have done better with the other song than the one they chose? we'll never know..

ijem, your turn!

OK - another one on NFs

Greece's 1978 entry "Charlie Chaplin" wasn't in the NF.  What happened to get it selected to go to Paris in 1978?

The internal selection jury voted Anna Vissi's "Kyrios Nobel" and Na Kseris S'Agapo performed by Robert Williams joint winners but decided on Robert's song on countback. However, ERT were not happy with either song as neither of the composers were Greek-born. A further final was therefore commissioned and this was won by Charlie Chaplin performed by Tania Tsanaclidou, which was not entered in the original selection.

and that is a very wrong answer - there are two answers I can accept, for once city is difficult to decide if it is the country's capital or not.. but it's definitely not 31 or 32
