We've got a thread for your favourite songs...so what about those songs that leave you feeling sick or those ones you can't actually listen to all the way through because they are that bad? Well this is the thread for those "songs"

.

I shall start

1. Austria 2003 - Weil der Mensch zählt - words cannot express how revolting this thing is to me (well they can but I won't use them on a nice friendly forum like this one

). Barely even a song

, a supposedly comic performance which was about as funny as dropping a brick on your toe

, and an intensely annoying singer I just wanted to smack with something incredibly hard

2. Spain 1996 - Ay que deseo! - is this even a song or is it just random notes strung together to make it sound as painful as possible. How on Earth this got through the 96 pre-qualifying is a real mystery to me. Hideous

3. Norway 1963 - Solhverv -

So unbelievably dull that I'm surprised the audience managed to stay awake during it. No wonder Anita Thallaug never recorded this dire track.

4. Iceland 1997 - Minn hinsti dans - The reason I hate this so much is actually 2fold. Firstly the "song" is just horrendous...but what made it worse was the hideous, gross and quite frankly vomit inducing performance, which was the most disgusting thing I've seen on an ESC stage.

5. Turkey 1983 - Opera - OMG what a complete and utter mess. Absolutely no redeeming features whatsoever.

6. UK 1995 - Love City Groove - What in God's name were we thinking

...and more to the point how did it finish 10th

7. Slovenia 2007 - Cvet z juga - Opera has it's place - and singing it over a dance track is most definitely NOT it. Painful to my ears. Still can't quite believe this was written by the same bloke that wrote my #1 of 2008

8. Italy 1990 - Insieme:1992 - 1990 isn't a great year - but this dirge should NEVER have been anywhere near the title. Horrible lyrics, horrible singer, horrible melody...still the backing vocalists were OK

9. Luxembourg 1970 - Je suis tombé du ciel - Please make him stop

- who told him he could sing? Somebody deaf

10. Estonia 2008 - Leto svet - Was it supposed to be funny? If it was it failed miserably...and it also failed miserably at being a song

I'll stop there because I might just get carried away insulting these poor excuses for "songs"

i think Spain 2008 did beat all the entries i ever had as my all time last.. But Estonia and Czech Republic were bad in 2008 too!

but let's name other awful entries.. Malta 1996, Yugoslavia 1990, Israel 1982, Yugoslavia 1987, Macedonia 2006, Estonia 2006, Turkey 2007, Estonia 2005, Croatia 2003, Latvia 2000... can't remember more.. Just that modern esc is a crap and none of the old classics are bad (except Italy 63..)

okey..now i see what people think about Estonian songs

but mine top 7 of the songs what i dont like...i cant name them the worst
and there didnt came 10 songs of the 4 years when im watch ESC.

Bosnia 2008 is better than like ALL estonian songs since Tanel Padar... (oh i kinda like 2003 though)

you should watch older esc.. Even though truly the worst esc songs come from modern era FILLED with CR@PS you'll get a better retrospective as what is esc-good

and Yugoslavia 1990 is hard to beat as all time last

I agree that Bosnia 08 is fantastic...and better than all of Estonia's recent efforts (although Estonia wasted a huge opportunity in 2008 with 365 Days & Ice Cold Story both losing to the horrible Leto Svet in Eurolaul and I think either of them would have seen Estonia qualify)

Agree again about the old ESCs - it gives you so much more perspective at how bad the majority of the songs in this decade have been.

Yugoslavia 90 is a classic - yes she dressed like a cheap whore and it's cheap bubblegum pop - but I love it nonetheless.

Totally agreed, the Estonian 2008 selection was pretty good. My fave was also "Ice-Cold story" but I had a big crush on SKA Factor's "Real big money" as well!

Yes old esc rocks. When you watch esc 65 or 66 you go insane, 17 entries ALL 17 are good. Yes "old sounding" but you can tell, all 17 are real singers putting an effort, all songs thought out and well written.

Yugoslavia 90 is less of a classic than Yugoslavia 91. In all shows around Europe showing "Classic" tunes of ESC you always get a sequence of "worst entries ever" and you get the usuals Belgium 73 and Yugoslavia 91. But no one ever shows the HUGE whore Marylin-wanna be from Yugoslavia 1990. She's wasted. She's gonne. You said it all. Cheap whore. Bubblegum pop. And I HATE HATE HATE it. I'm ok with people NOT hating it. But if I hear ANYONE having it ABOVE Serge Gainsbourg's last ever written song before his death, performed with glory and style by the first black woman representing France.. I will kill him.

It's true what you say about Belgium 73 & Yugoslavia 91 though - they are always shown as the worst of ESC - and I think it's more to do with the look than the songs themselves. Let's face it Nicole & Hugo looked ridiculous...Baby Doll looked like a middle-aged transvestite buy neither Baby Baby or Brazil are bad songs in the way Chiki Chiki or Leto Svet are bad songs. I'd actually go as far as to say that Brazil is actually a pretty good song. Other ones usually mentioned here are Austria 77 (again that dance and those costumes - the song is OK), Norway 80 (again the costumes and the "hey noni noni" bit - I actually quite like it) & Belgium 80 (which is a bag of crap anyway)

but Yugoslavia first of 90? Even if YOU recognized it as cheap whore and bubblegum pop? That whore was shaking her ass to get the jury's votes trying to look like a whory Marylin. It's SO sick.

The problem I have with bubblegum pop is that it's so infectious and catchy that I can't help but like it

Never managed to understand how Israel 1999 is not unanimously bashed by everybody. That song is one of the biggest horrours ever sent to ESC.

Hmm... it must have been due to the time I made the post... while I did notice Malta 1996 being there, I did not interpret it correctly.

It's hard to make a bottom 10, but I don't like:

1982 Netherlands - What were we thinking?

1983 Spain - I really don't like it.
1986 Sweden - Supposed to be funny, but Eurovision is too serious for this.
1996 Finland - Boring.
1997 Denmark - It's a cheap rip off of the entry from the UK in 1995.
2003 Austria - Just watch the performance to see how worse it is.
2006 Lithuania - It's a litte childish to proclaim yourself as a winner.
2006 Iceland - Not funny!
2007 Denmark - I don't like the performance and I don't like the song.
2008 San Marino - I was happy when I heard that this little country entered Eurovision, but I was disappointed when I saw their performance.

how can GYPSY and FINNISH together be boring, when it's the biggest amazing oxymoron! Gosh the finnish awesome sexy language in a great deep voice, a guitar but jazzy elements? god damn im in love with that song!

I like the Finnish language too. Okay, I can't speak it, but there are a lot Finnish songs in Eurovision that I like.
But I'm not impressed by the 1996 performance.

Interesting choices

Netherlands 82 - I agree - what were you thinking

Spain 83 - I agree - don't like it
Sweden 86 - I quite like the cheesiness of this song

Finland 96 - Lovely song
Denmark 97 - horrific - rap & ESC should never be together - as UK proved in 95 & 06
Austria 03 - Biggest piece of crap ever to be on an ESC stage
Lithuania 06 - as a song it's awful - as a performance it was fabulous

Iceland 06 - as a song it's OK - as a performance it was rubbish

Denmark 07 - As a British ESC fan this is everything an ESC song and performance should be - totally unbelievably over the top and cheesy

San Marino 08 - very classy song very underrated with a great performance.

I agree. I must say that imo UK's song in '95 wasn't that bad (although a 10th place is a very high ranking for that song), but Denmark failed miserably. It's not good and it's not even funny. It got some points (25, pretty much for a song like that), but it was my least favorite in 1997.

No, rap and ESC is not a good combination.

I totally disagree. I hate it when people enclose Eurovision to a style, a format, and a genre. It's irrelevant. The only thing that Eurovision is enclosed to is music (therefore the COMEDY acts should be banned). But I'm not against FUNNY music, Political music, and all genres are allowed and very much enjoyed for being different (hard rock, rap etc.)

I do agree with you - but the one thing I will say is that when rap has been used at ESC it's usually been disastrous (quite rightly in the case of UK 06 I might add - what on earth were we thinking sending him

well it's been bad at esc coz good rap never got in.. this year we almost got a good one from Finland with "Speakerbox" from Signmark that barely got 2nd.. and Norway had a HUGE one from Kesera but it only made it to second chance.. but we'll get there eventually!
