apart from the fact that, quite understandlby, you have a lot of dutch/belgian songs, you also have a lot of swedish like songs, and many modern esc entries! Nothing before the 90s except for the Belgian winner.. it feels a bit incomplete to me, each time I see an all time top 10 without at least one song from the 60s I feel awkward, for they are the best best best best esc years and have given so much masterpieces it's unconcievable to not have one there! "T Is genoeg" is at a BILLION YEARS LIGHT ABOVE the 96 entry by far far far far far far..

No it's a top 10 I can't agree with. As for Carola, the biggest fags' queens being a homophobic woman who holds the bible during the esc votes and who jumps on table without a single consideration for the woman she barely beat.. no no no no no it's in my French genes to hate it, and thank god, my music taste is any way near her music style. Abba was enough for me

Well, I have only one Dutch and one Belgian song in my list. I honestly like the songs, it has nothing to do with the fact that I'm Dutch myself. Of course it plays a role that I understand the Dutch song. A song is always better when you can understand were the song is about.

I must admit that I don't know all the songs from Eurovision, so it's true that it's not a really good list. I have choosen ten songs from the songs that I know. The chance is big that the list will change several times.

I like the Dutch song from '96 aslo because I heard it several times when I was a child. I really liked it back then and when I listen to it today it reminds me of that period from my childhood (it was a big hit in The Netherlands in the months before and after Eurovision).

Dinle and Let Me Try are my favorites by far in 1997 and 2005! I remember when I watched the show in 2005 with my father and we were for Romania in the semi-final and in the final.

By the way did Carola really hold a bible during the votes?

That's a little bit unnecessary.

Wonderful performance and beautiful song. Great debut from Poland!

How could I forget this song? I have listened to it so much the past year.

another one i just hate and find very overrated. it's boring, she doesn't sing it well and it's the very typical eurovision ballad format.. ok she's beautiful but that's nothing to care for if the song doesn't go with it

I totally respect your opinion, but to me To Nie Ja is one of the most wonderful entries in Eurovision.

We don't agree a lot in this thread

but that makes it interesting.

It would be pretty boring if we all had the same taste, right?

lol well how typical? I hate it very much.
I like Katja's first two entries (but much more 70 than 71) but this was very lame. I hate hate the melody, Ralph Siegel's most often the time just irritates me, he's one of the few who helped Eurovision to become cheesy and get enclosed in the stereotype of kitsh songs.. Katja could sing it well but the performance makes me so mad, it's so bad because it fells at recreating the certain atmosphere of Berlin of the 30s which I think it should have aimed for.. Sad clowns then were much more powerful than a happy sing along that Hollywood pulled out way better before (with the simply amazing and flat out brilliant "There's no business like show business" from the movie with the same title which is simply one of the best Hollywood musicals ever!)

An update of my top 10

1. Germany 1981 - Johnny Blue - I honestly can't see it ever changing to be honest.
2. France 2001 - Je n'ai que mon ame - restored my faith in ESC after a shocking first half to the 2001 contest this saved it.
3. Italy 1992 - Rapsodia - It's well known that I don't like Italian entries as a rule - but this is sung with such incredible emotion that I can't help but love it.
4. France 1969 - Un jour, un enfant - Only one word to describe it - CLASSY.
5. Spain 1989 - Nacida para amar - Stopped me in my tracks when I was listening to all the songs a few years ago. Excellent vocal performance live too.
6. Ireland 1993 - In Your Eyes - The reason I'm an ESC fan. I always watched but Niamh made me a fan of the contest.
7. Belgium 1993 - Iemand als jij - Last? I just don't get it. It's such a beautiful song, she performed it pretty well too. She's now more famous for the award (which I think is unjustified because I don't actually think she looked that bad).
8. Slovakia 1998 - Modlitba - A stunning song. She missed one part in the live and it cost her dearly it would seem. I can't see any other reason why only Croatia voted for it.
9. Luxembourg 1973 - Tu te reconnaitras - A fabulous performance of a stunningly gorgeous song.
10. Germany 1975 - Ein Lied kann eine Brücke sein - Years ahead of it's time. It was so contemporary that the idiot juries just didn't see what a great song and performance this was.

I like your top 6 (except Italy 1992, which is overrated in my opinion).

I don't agree with Belgium. It's really deserved that Belgium ended up last in 1993: her dress, just so awful.
Luxemburg 1973 and Germany 1975 were good (not so great to put them in a top ten in my opinion) and Slovakia 1998 was underrated indeed.

As for To nie ja! - I used to love the song - now I can just about listen to it without wanting to scream. I don't know what changed with me but I just don't like it anymore.

Onto Theater - well I love all 3 of Katja's entries (with 1970 miles ahead of the other 2)...but the thing with Theater that I do like (and Morgan will shout at me for it) was the performance which I thought was the best performance of 1980 (but not the best song which for me was Amsterdam).

It's cool that you put a number last in your top ten. The fact that the juries didn't give many points to a song doesn't mean that the song is bad (Turkey '87 and Iceland '89

When I first did a ranking of each year I listened to each song without checking the results first. Needless to say I got a few surprises when I saw how well or badly some songs had done. The biggest surprises for me were in 1975 - when the wonderful German & Turkish entries were in the bottom 5...Turkey even finishing last.

Yes, Turkey deserved a better place in 1975. But that's the problem with more Turkey's entries: many low places, whereas they had good performances. I really like the entries in 1987 and 1988.

Yeah, I like Morocco '80 too. They didn't even want to return after receiving only 7 points.

The most annoying thing about the Turkish entries is that IMO opinion (other than Dinle) their best entries didn't do very well. They've had a lot of success in the 00s with songs that aren't original or different in any way - although 2008 was an exception to that...but they've gone back to being unoriginal this year

. In fact Deli is the only Turkish entry I've actually liked since 2001

i agree with IJM except he totally forgot Athena's entry.. winning with Sertab and then having the guts to send something totally different like Athena's awesome awesome entry is very courageous from Turkey and a great proof that we can still hope that the country won't always send the shaky-belly women who shout and get naked on stage to get points!

It is always interesting to read other people's top 10 lists.

I think we don't have very much common in our top 10 lists, but I am sure that you love your top 10 as much as I love mine.

Actually my taste is changing every day, so I think I couldn't make again a top 10 list. All my votings depend on my mood. But whatsoever my mood is, my top 3 stays untouchable.

I saw your lists in this thread and they are very interesting.

Aslo my top 10 change every now and then. But also my #1 will not change. "J'aime la vie" remains my number one favorite.

It's not easy to choose 10 songs out of all the ESC-entries, but I think that this are the songs that I love the most at the moment.

well i hate belgium 86 and i hate many other songs in that list, but that's no surprises, i already knew our tastes were very different, dear Remy..

i am about to do a complete make over of my list too ! first i'll make a top 10 for decades :
56-69 ; 70-79 ; 80-89 ; 90-99 ; 00-09
and then an ultimate top 10 before 2010 starts !
