Topic: Who cares about Eurovision ?

It might seem a weird question to ask but  .... who really  cares about Eurovision nowadays ? (and I'm not asking about us 'cause we're already old addicts)
Does ESC still have that power to turn common teenagers into Eurovision addicts or is it all about gossips and kitch shows that make people watch the contest year after year ?

A really good question, Rely! 

As a real ESCaholic, I am a fan of older ESC songs (from 1950's till 1990's) but most of the songs from 21st century are bad in my ears. Of course we have had some really great songs also during 00's but they are few.

But, if I was a newby who knew nothing about ESC history and its amazing songs, I would maybe not watch it another time, because ESC today is mostly something else but music.

There's usually a hate-like to the contest in many places, or at least here in spain, thinking everything is only politics, and dated songs.

But when people see the contest with real eyes, and not with those only viewing the worst of it, you can actually see a huge variety of styles, and to know about many singers you wouldn't know elsewhere. it's impossible to dislike eurovision, if someone says it, he must dislike music in general, there will be songs you will like, either you're a punk or a clasical music lover.

True ... not that it matters to anyone but esc is not usually the contest most Romanians like ...it is however the contest most Romanians make fun of ... and things don't seem to change without EBU taking a closer look at the "I vote for you, you vote for me" ranking schema elements sort of speak. Easier to say than done I know but do they care enough to actually do something serious about it ?

Other than those sad individuals like me there isn't anyone sane or sober who watches it in this country.  It's become such a joke in the last 20 years that it's impossible for it to be taken seriously again here.  Even after Katrina's win in 1997 it was a joke.  So in short - who cares about Eurovision? - in this country - NOBODY - especially not the BBC.

In one newspaper poll 82 % of all the voters said that they are not watching at the Finnish heats.  On the other hand, I can not blame them, because I have not been watching them this year either.

which is a shame, coz not only it's a GREAT national final, but then what happens is that the acts that qualify to the final are not really people's favorites, just a LITTLE percentage of the country's faves.. and mostly fans of the groups or joke votes..

Oh, Eurovision is my life
Im addicted of it since 2006 year, when I was 11 y.o

Eurovision is a good chance to meet another singers from else countries and by that I have get to know so many good singers.
I hope it never end

I have nearly started  hating ESC, because it is all what ESC fans are able to think about at the moment.  People are listening over and over again the same ESC 2010 songs and they forget all other music and everything else what is much more important in this world.

oh no i had my exams going on and i listen more to the good national final songs than the real esc songs
it's not important who wins the show now anymore : it's more interesting to debate the diaspora voting but music wise it's almost irrelevant if we didnt have Lena, Harel, Tom, Daniel, Manga and of course Robin..
