Semi-finals
« on: October 07, 2009, 06:58:10 PM »
What do you think of the semi-finals?
Is it a good system in your opinion or do you like the system, used before 2004, more? (I mean the system with only a final and where countries with a low score can't participate in the following year).

You're right, maybe I should edit the poll.  :worry:

I changed the poll. There are three options now, instead of two.

There are too many countries involved in this contest for us to have only one semi. On the other hand having just a final is out of the question imo, especially with the Big 4 automatically "qualifying" for the Final. The way the contest is organized now is weird as well. EBU turned the contest into an Olympic Music Contest (sort of) ... I can get along with the idea behind it but I dislike the fact that it is so crowded.

Yes, two semi-finals is too much, but you know the reason for this system.
I think that only a final is the best system, where the countries with a low score have to wait two years to participate again. I also dislike the fact that the contest is so crowded.

My thought exactly ! :goodjob: However I can't say "Hello tomorrow" when I think that more and more countries will join the EBU ... what if we'll have 3 semis in a few years ?

btw ... Welcome aboard !

I agree with Relyana. The contest looks more like an Olympic Music Contest now.
What is the next step? Introducing Quarter-finals?

I think that only a final is possible if only the top 10 will qualify for the edition next year and the rest have to wait two years to participate again. Only a final is dissapointing for the countries that end out of the top 10 every time they participate, but the current system is dissapointing for countries like Andorra, that failed to qualify for the final six times in a row.

it is not fair to have a country out because of one bad song while another one can be in the final with a huge horrible song but had a good one the year before ; hence, the one semi final was ridiculous and only 10 countries in the big final every year would make it impossible. What if we always get Turkey, Greece and Ukraine, Russia fighting over who has the most friends in Europe ?

My thoughts entirely.  It's pretty much a given that Greece, Turkey, Russia, Ukraine and Armenia will qualify every year.....no matter what system is put in place until we revert to 100% jury.

I agree but no one would accept giving up the televote, so at least the current system prevented Russia and Ukraine to make it to the top 10 this year and Portugal, Iceland and now Estonia make it!
