EUROVISION SONG CONTEST 1989, LAUSANNE, SWITZERLAND

Eurovision returned "home" for the first time since the inaugral contest.  Celine Dion broke the mould by not only reprising her winner but also her new single at the start of the show.  The contest itself did not have a single returning artist in it but there were 2 artists making their first of 2 appearances.  Thomas Forstner equalled Austria's best finish since their victory finishing 5th,  he would fare a lot less well on his return 2 years later.  Mariana Efstratiou had been a backing singer for Greece in 1987 but this was her first appearance as a soloist.  She also fared less well on her return 7 years later.  The main talking point of the contest was the age of the contestants.  Half of the Israeli duo was 12 years old, as was the French contestant.  In subsequent years the EBU enforced an age limit on contestants stating that they had to be 16 or over.  The voting was completely one-sided.  Despite getting 0 from the Italians who voted first, Yugoslavia took the lead after the 3rd set of votes and was never challenged after that.  Iceland finally moved from the 16th place they'd occupied since their debut - finishing last with 0 points.

Exactly 20 years ago this evening.

My favorite is Nur Ein Lied:goodjob:

I also like the entries from the United Kingdom, Iceland, Yugoslavia, France and Denmark. :)
