EUROVISION SONG CONTEST 2009 - FINAL

16th May 2009

Quite simply the only thing anyone wanted to know was by how much would Alexander Rybak and Norway win.  It was as close to a foregone conclusion as has ever been seen at the contest.  Returnees Chiara and Sakis Rouvas both made the final.  The Big 4 all had high hopes of improving on some awful recent results.  France were represented by Patricia Kaas, Germany enlisted the help of Dita von Teese, Spain had high hopes with Soraya's uptempo song.  The UK despairing over recent results asked Lord Andrew Lloyd-Webber to write the song.  He enlisted the help of one of the most successful lyricists of recent times - Dianne Warren.  After an open audition and a series of XFactor style eviction shows Jade Ewen was chosen.  Things certainly improved for both the UK and France.  Germany finished mid-table whilst Spain were somewhat ignored by pretty much everyone finishing 24th out of 25.  Once the results came in it became obvious that placing Norway as the hot favourites was quite correct...as they soon took a completely unasailable lead.  Eventually they won by an absolutely HUGE 169 points with a new record total of 387 points.
