EUROVISION SONG CONTEST 1995, DUBLIN, IRELAND

Having made history by winning the contest for 3 years running the Irish again made history by hosting the contest for the 3rd consecutive year, and for the 2nd consecutive year at exactly the same venue (another first).  The contest itself produced a somewhat controversial winner.  The controversy surrounded the song itself which only had 8 short lines of singing and over 2 and a half minutes of instrumental.  Some people considered it not to be a song at all but an instrumental.  The protests made no difference and Norway won their second contest. Rolf Løvland, had written Norway's previous winner in 1985 (and also provided backing vocals on that as well) and Secret Garden was his group. Owing much to Irish violinist Fionnuala Shery, and perhaps influenced by the interval act the previous year, the victory was never in doubt. There were 3 artists making their first appearance. Croatian group Magazin included Danijela who would return 3 years later as a soloist. Darja Svarger appeared for Slovenia and returned 4 years later. Alexandros Panayi was the Cypriot representative and returned 5 years later as half of Voice. Russia were represented by a bizarre looking man in heavy make-up singing a "Lullaby for a volcano". Belgian representative, Frédéric Etherlinck, was the grandson of a Nobel Prize winner.

My favorite for this year is Sweden. Beautiful song!
I also like Israel (Liora - Amen) and Poland (Justyna - Sama).
Of course Norway and Spain are wonderful too!

First I didn't like the Hungarian entry (it can't compete with Frederika Bayer the year before), but after listening to it a few times, I'm starting to like it.

see? apparently you seem to like the singer's (and mostly young women) look a LOT but I only care for music..

plus the type of singers you seem to adore (edyta, liora) are just not my type

No, that's wrong. Of course I like Edyta and Liora, but the reason that I named their entries is because of the music. I won't pay attention to a beautiful lady singing a ugly song.

I have awakend the false impression that I only look at who sings the song, but also for me the music comes on the first place. If I only love songs from young women, I wouldn't love Se Pa Mej so much for example. :P

I think Amen is a beautiful song, but Dutch commentator Paul de Leeuw hates it too.

Warning: Paul de Leeuw has a strange sense of humor.

just the fact the country that was risen because of religious roots and that already won esc with "Hallelujah" enters with "Amen" is making me mad enough.. sorry.. I'm not very pro-Israel as a country (sorry Niko) but the fact they keep sending peace songs with religious flavor is making me sick.
