EUROVISION SONG CONTEST 2000, STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN

The first contest of the new millennium was the second contest to be held in Stockholm.  Latvia entered the contest for the first time finishing a creditable 3rd.  Roger Pontare returned for Sweden 6 years after he'd appeared with Marie Bergman.  Serafin Zubiri returned for Spain after 8 years.  Alexandros Panayi returned for Cyprus as a member of Voice, 5 years after being a solo artist.  Israel opened the contest in controversial style with a stage show which included 2 men kissing and the group waving a Syrian flag.  Unlike 2 years previously though controversy didn't help the Israeli cause.  Linda for the Netherlands appeared in a huge dress which later revealed her dancers.  Nikki French for the UK perhaps summed up her country's attitude to Eurovision by singing "Don't Play That Song Again" which gave them their worst result to date.  The voting was one sided as Denmark received 12 points from the first country to vote, Israel, and never relinquished their lead finally finishing 40 points ahead of nearest rivals Russia.  The Danes had not won for 37 years and the Olsen Brothers were the oldest winners to date.

Where's the Macedonia love ?   :P I know I'm the only one that loves it. It's 3 minutes of pop bliss.

I might have been a little hard on Ireland, placing it last. The tune is ok. I really like his voice. The lyrics - especially the title - I find to be kinda corny.
If it had completely new lyrics, it would be in the middle of my pack.

You're probably right to give Germany the least amount of points. It is nonsense, and I'm not usually a fan of joke entries, but it still makes me smile. It reminds me of Say You'll Be There by Spice Girls though.

As for UK. I bought that single at the time. It had 3 versions of Don't Play That Song Again. I like the slow version, more than the version they used for the contest !

Latvia's your fav ! I 'only' have it as my 8th choice, but I adore all of my top 8 and would've been happy for any of them to win.

Yes, maybe "100% te ljubam" is quite simple and maybe a bit cheesy song, but I even like it ;) By the way, XXL reminds me a lot group E.N.I. (Croatia 1997) :P
