UNITED KINGDOM 2011 || Blue - I Can
« on: December 14, 2010, 11:07:48 PM »
No confirmed news yet - but there are strong rumours that the BBC are in discussions with Charlotte Church with regard to her representing us.  This would lead to me having to eat my words as I've been saying for 10 years + that no star would ever represent the UK again.

Charlotte became famous as a 12 year old with the release of the operatic album Voice Of An Angel.  She amassed a fortune as an opera singer.  In 2005 she crossed over to pop with the release of the single Crazy Chick.  She then moved into TV having her own show.

The one thing that makes me think this is nothing more than a rumour that will not materialise is her reaction to Scooch being chosen in 2007.  Charlotte said on her show - I've never seen sh** like it.  Russ from Scooch replied - "what a shame the voice of an angel has the mouth of a sewer".  Charlotte retaliated - "they called me attention seeking....then what's doing Eurovision dressed as air hostesses".  So she doesn't have a high opinion of the contest.

The BBC have tonight confirmed that the boyband Blue will be our representatives in Düssedorf

Left to right - Simon Webbe, Duncan James, Lee Ryan & Anthony Costa.

It's been confirmed on Duncan's Twitter page as well.  The song will be called I Can and was written by the guys themselves.

For those who don't remember them they were one of the biggest boybands at the beginning of the 00s.  Anthony was in the UK NF in 2006 finishing runner-up to Daz Sampson.

Good luck Blue

am i the only skeptical one? their songs sound very dated nowadays and Antony Costa can’t really sing or perform live

i really can’t decide before the song is chosen anyway, but it sounds like they’re only famous in UK now since their big fame is over, when UK has so many big names known internationally right now. Plus they’re nothing but a boys band doing pop rock, why is that any good?

it's camp, dated, bad image for the uk people of eurovision and probably another No Angel (biggest girls band ever, remember the result?)

They haven't had a hit together since 2004.  Their solo singing careers flopped.  Simon Webbe was even desperate enough to go onto Z List celebrity show I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here...Lee Ryan just got drunk (but has now sorted himself out)...Duncan James occasionally presented a show for the National Lottery.  They are serious has-beens here :doh:

Everybody knows that I love ballads, classical music and also good rock.  ;) So, I was waiting for a typical boy band ballad. But when I started listening this, I got hugely surprised.  :biggrin:  I usually don't listen this kind of music so I was a little bit worried in the beginning.  :-[ But, suddenly, I started loving this song, and now I am sure that this song will do very well in ESC.  :sing: So, good luck United Kingdom!  :hug:  :goodjob:
