All my comments and analysis will come, all in good time, for now I refuse to take part in the whole euphoria (hm) that follows esc outcome. Just let me sigh in relief at the fact Russia did not win, that Romania, Greece, Cyprus all failed to make it to the top 10 and that Norway came last, with Germany, Spain and Italy in the top 10 to prove that songs did matter and that, indeed, I will be here again next year (but of course, Estonia or Turkey as well but their amazingness was always going to be recognize as such). For now, let's enjoy the weekend and dig into it once all the people online who are not truly fans stop spoiling all around and we can more objectively discuss this esc edition that is already past us. And well, let's not spoil our own joy to see Rona in the top5. I’ll let you guess how I screamed at each ****-awesome 12 to Albania!

This was a big victory to ESC! All top 10 songs did really deserve their good placings. Now can everyone see, that girls shouting and shaking in bikinis (Cyprus 16th and Greece 17th), pointless circus performances (France 22nd) or guys jumping all around stage (Ireland 19th and Norway 26th) don't interest anymore the big audience!

So, I want to say:

Congratulations ESC and

1: SWEDEN - Loreen
2: RUSSIA - Buranovskiye Babushki
3: SERBIA - Zeljko Joksimovic
4: AZERBAIJAN - Sabina Babayeva
5: ALBANIA - Rona Nishliu
6: ESTONIA - Ott Lepland
7: TURKEY - Can Bonomo
8: GERMANY - Roman Lob
9: ITALY - Nina Zilli
10: SPAIN - Pastora Soler
11: MOLDOVA - Pasha Parfeny

 :goodjob:

United Kingdom was criminally underrated.  :(

I totally agree with you Niko, except for Russia (and Azerbaijan) which I think don't deserve the top 10, unlike Moldova... and I wish Albania was 4th instead but it's the BEST esc results in a VERY long time! Amazing to see Serbia, Albania and Spain (also Italy) in the top 10 out of like 5 songs in their original languages in the final! Incredible!

Imo Finland and Israel are the most underrated entries of this year, the only in my top 10 not making it, but wow it's so lovely to see such great results (sad for Switzerland and also Bulgaria instead of Norway, another solo artist on stage in national language would have been great)

Thank you Morgan :)

Anyway, I think it is much better not to qualify to final than to become last in final.  ;)

Well that was a giant anti-climax wasn't it?

I will venture to say that it is one of the poorest winners ever - certainly amongst the bottom 10 winners.  Completely unoriginal in both song and performance and a performer who just exuded arrogance once she was in the green room - almost as though it was inevitable that she was going to win so let's just get on with it.

More downs

Iceland - with a much improved performance from their semi were very underrated
UK - The Hump put in a great performance and was criminally underrated
Serbia - what am I missing in this guy's boring songs.  There's obviously something because he keeps getting the results whether as a writer or performer or both
Slovenia - 17th/18 in the Semi - are you kidding me?  No way was every song but Slovakia better than this beautiful and well-performed song

There were sum ups though
Albania - a truly phenomenal performance thoroughly deserved it's 5th place
Estonia - a truly wonderful vocal thoroughly deserved it's 6th place
Norway, Greece, Cyprus - average vocals and dancing hotties getting what they deserved.
Ireland - so pleased to see them flop :cheer:

I completely disagree Ian with you about Iceland and Serbia. The Icelandic song is so used, similar dramatic duos have been used by several countries God knows how many times. In my ranking, Iceland was 18th, because it started to sound like 3 times overcooked cabbage.  :-[

Serbia on the other hand was one of the best songs in my mind so it scored what it needed. Zellko has a very good voice and the song was full of Balkan spirit!  Zeljko was my nr 5 just after Macedonia, Russia, Estonia and Albania.  :)

So what is it that I'm missing in the Serbian song then?  I know I'm in the minority when it comes to Joksimovic's songs but I'd like to know what it is that everyone hears that I don't

As for Iceland - it should come as no surprise that I love it.  It is one of those songs you listen to and think "Ian will love it".  Exactly my sort of song

I know, Iceland is not a bad song, but somehow I got tired with it.  :-[

A question: do you like Balkan songs generally? Or do you maybe connect Zeljko always with "Lane moje" ?

Well the Balkans have quite often ranked highly - but only with one win (Slovenia 2010 - which wasn't very Balkan anyway).  Lane moje bored me, Oro was nice but not exceptional - but Lelja was wonderful so I know he can write a great song.

Well, that helps a lot to understand why don't you like him that much. I personally like very much Balkan songs as you know, but I don't like all of them either. For example, I never understood why Molitva won (it is quite a nice song, but still). On the contrary, I like Oro much more.

I checked my ranking list wrong: Iceland was my 14th.  :)

See I absolutely LOVE Molitva - my #2 of 2007 and my favourite winner this century.   Perhaps it's the male vocal that I don't like in Balkan songs.

Ugh Molitva... One of the songs that I'll never understand how it won the contest. It's so boring to me.

Oro, Lane Moje, Lejla on the other hand... masterpieces

Especially Oro = goosebumps.

I love all of these, plus Vukovi umiru sami, Neka mi ne svane and most of what Babic wrote. I guess my Balkan ballad love is incurable.

After ESC, i'm really tired now LOL, but very happy with the winner, it's the 1st time after long that my prediction about the winner is correct, and the 2nd time ever that the winner is also my personal fav in its year (1st time was Sertab Erener, which wasn't so hard, since 2003 was poor year imo).

So here are my opinions about ESC 2012, starting from the lowest ranked and then we're going u-u-u-u-u-u-up :)

26. Norway: I thought it's not going to do, but didn't think of last place. no disappointment here, since i was never fan of it.

25. United Kingdom: great song, so all i can add is once more here: criminally underrated! really such a shame that ended so low.

24. Hungary: i always believed it is going to good, but i've changed my opinion at the big night itself. very underrated as well, as always happens with Hungary.

23. Denmark: Should've been placed better. still was better then several songs in this final.

22. France: one of the most certain things this ESC, is bottom 5 placing for France. Angunn was even placed higher than i thought.

21. Malta: Just like France, no surprise at all here this placing. also was certain for me.

20. Iceland: thought i thought Iceland might have done good at the semi, i never thought Iceland would get that low, though i always saw it finish around the 15th place, but no higher than that.

19. Ireland: since the semi qualification, it even looked that the Jedwards might even match their good placing of 2011, but i'm not surprised at all from this placing.

18. Bosnia & Herzegovina: this is very classy and criminally underrated.

17. Greece: again, definitely not surprise here. was even written on the walls that no longer top 10 for Greece for the 1st time since 2003.

16. Cyprus: exactly the placing i predicted it to finish, also thought it'll be higher then Greece (though only by 1 place in this case)...

15. Ukraine: was really sure that this gonna be dark horse and might be strong on the picture, but that song ends as one of the most forgettable this year, and no regret here about that.

14. Lithuania: didn't even think would qualify, and the semi result as much as the 14th place really surprises me.

13. Macedonia: the best part was Macedonia being the leader after 2nd vote, and i really hoped Kaliopi would stay very high until the end. pity, because she really deserved to bring Macedonia its best result ever!

12. Romania: there was some hype around this song, and i never got it. never saw it finish in the top 10, so no surprise here.

11. Moldova: this is another surprise for me. same comments as about Lithuania.

10. Spain: i really thought Spain can do better, but at least this is Spain best result for years, and very deserved, though should be higher imo.

09. Italy: that's exactly the kind of placing i expected it to finish. never saw top 5 result for it as many thought.

08. Germany: this actually nice surprise. while at 1st it looked like some sort of dark horse, i didn't see it do so well, so really nice surprise.

07. Turkey: great and well deserved placing for Turkey!

06. Estonia: also very nice surprise! i really believed that Estonia can do very well, and very nice to see i was right about it.

05. Albania: this i will never get because for me this song is just full with annoying screams. i think would be much deserved if the United Kingdom had got Albania's placing and vice versa...

04. Azerbaijan: again, very annoying song, which i don't get what doing so high. but as always, Azerbaijan can never be underrated...

03. Serbia: very good one, and definitely no surprise here.

02. Russia: as i said before, the comedy made its point very well, so definitely no surprise with this outcome. if we look for surprise it is only that 2nd place getting just one single 12 points (and it was no surprisingly from Belarus).

01. Sweden: i think i've already said everything, so if i can add more, this is the best ESC winner of all time! though Loreen wasn't far from Rybak's record, this time i must say that the "fixed voting order" just worked very well. was only annoying to see too much the comeback of  wheelers-dealers, and this time i mean to Christer Björkman...like he won himself...but still nothing can change my great feeling about this great and deserved victory ever! :)

Now we can all get some rest, get back to our lives, and enjoy some contests as always :) see you next year in Sweden 2013! :)

I'm very happy to see Italy and Spain in the top 10!  :goodjob: They deserved at least a top 5 place in my opinion, but it's good to see that good songs with strong vocals are becoming more popular.

By the way, Finland had the best spokesperson this year!  :goodjob1:

Mr Lordi (Tomi Putaansuu) gave the votes from Finland

My quick review of the final - in performance order

1. UK - competent performance - nothing more, nothing less.  Nevertheless the result was disappointing and undeserved

2. Hungary - the performance in the semi was better than in the final - but it was still pretty good

3. Albania - that vocal performance never ceases to amaze me....simply ASTONISHING

4. Lithuania - another one where the performance was not as good as in the semi...but it was still decent enough

5. Bosnia & Herzegovina - a nice performance of a very dull ballad

6. Russia - yes they're cute but the song is rubbish and the performance was rubbish too

7. Iceland - a much improved vocal from Jonsi and Greta was lovely

8. Cyprus - vocally inept, choreography was cheap and tacky...such a shame Cyprus have decided to go down this path

9. France - average vocal of an average song.  No surprise at all that it finished bottom 5

10. Italy - the beginning was dodgy but she recovered well.  I did actually quite like this one :o - yes me liking an Italian entry

11. Estonia - a HUGE improvement on his Semi performance (which in itself was pretty good).  Sensational

12. Norway - vocally inept - not a lot more to say really

13. Azerbaijan - decent vocal of an OK song - but finished way too high

14. Romania - nice to see it how it should have been not how it was in the semi.  Catchy and fun

15. Denmark - still don't get why people actually like this song...and the vocal was average at best.

16. Greece - made the Cypriot song and performance look like a masterpiece

17. Sweden - it's really not my cup of tea...and it sounds like a 90s dance throwback.  Didn't like it when it was chosen and nothing in her performance has made me change my mind - but obviously I'm in the minority

18. Turkey - really can't decide if I actually like the song or not.  The performance was competent

19. Spain - sensational performance of a fairly ordinary song

20. Germany - he has lovely eyes...but the song is utterly forgettable

21. Malta - other than the funky foot moves there's not a lot going for this song

22. Macedonia - another superb vocal performance from Kaliopi

23. Ireland - glad they didn't go for a completely mad-cap performance because it wouldn't have suited the song...but ultimately it was a weak vocal performance of a very ordinary song

24. Serbia - yes Zeljko is a great live performer - but the song doesn't do much for me

25. Ukraine - she was shouty in the semi...and even shoutier in the final.  Glad to see it flop

26. Moldova - fun entry with a decent performance

My ranking of the Final - based solely on performances (combined studio/performance ranking will be posted soon)
