I voted for the Netherlands because Anouk's performance impressed me a lot, even though I don't like birds in real life (except the blue bird).   ;)

And I was nicely surprised by the good result for Belgium. Roberto made a lot of progress if you compare with the RTBF preselection.  :goodjob:

I didn't vote anyone  :P i don't believe there is any impact, and even if so, when we have 50% it's better to ask for job at some national jury  :D

LOL for this many connections and politics needed...since the juries were reinstated, it's been said they are "music professionals", but as a matter a fact many of them are ESC fans who are especially fans of the typical ESC pop sound....remember Sweden 2008  :P

Here are my impressions of the big final.

First of all, the show was excellent! Swedish television SVT did a fantastic job. Petra Mede's humor and professionalism are impressive. What a difference with the two stupid hosts from last year in Baku. It was a good choice to make the stage smaller. I appreciated the fact that the EBU decided to reduce the costs in these times of crisis. The Swedes worked very hard on this show and you could see the result: quality from the beginning to the end! The way everything was perfectly orchestrated, combined with the humor of Petra Mede and Lynda Woodruff made of the event a wonderful evening.

And here my opinion about the songs:

1. France: horrible, why does she have to shout like this?  :ack:

2. Lithuania: nice performance, but sadly they have the "no-hope" starting place.

3. Moldavia: very impressed by her singing. One of my favourites this year.

4. Finland: too much of everything, although I appreciate the kiss at the end. It's a warm message to the rest of Europe that the Eurovision Song Contest does not tolerate hate and racism against gay people.

5. Spain: yellow dress but bad singing (false?)

6. Belgium: better than expected! Even though in the beginning I had the impression that Roberto's voice was a bit hoarse. But what a smile and what a killer song!

7. Estonia: very spontaneaous, I like the Estonian language!

8. Belarus:  :ack:

9. Malta: fresh and cosy. Beautiful teeth.

10. Russia: very strong voice, nice melody but a bit old-fashioned and goody-goody. But that fits my image  :D

11. Germany: one of the most vulgar songs. Not my cup op tea. Bad singing and clumsy.

12. Armenia: somniferous

13. The Netherlands: WOW! I'm extremely impressed by her performance, even though it's not the first time I see Anouk. This is my absolute winner of the evening.

14. Romania: not my style of song and too much chaos.

15. U.K.: is she drunk?  :worry:

16. Sweden: ugly clothes and too repetitive. There were better songs in Melodifestivalen this year.

17. Hungary: original. Nice melody. But next time he should wear other pants.

18. Denmark: good, she looks less afraid than in the semi-finals, but no winner for me.

19. Iceland: very nice song! One of my favourites but he would be more handsome after a haircut.

20. Azerbaijan: not bad.

21. Greece: no!

22. Ukraine: very catchy and beautiful.

23. Italy: very very good. No chaos, just a great song. This is what the ESC should be!

24. Norway: not my cup of tea but not bad for this kind of music.

25. Georgia: like a Disney film, fake!

26. Ireland: he could sing better, and too much chaos, but nice guys though  ;)

Yes, but I do remember a Belgian girl, a friend of someone I know here in my city. She was selected by the French speaking Belgian broadcaster RTBF to join the jury. But I don't know on which base they chose her. A bit strange though because she is Dutch speaking and it was the French speaking broadcaster that voted that year. Belgium is most of the time a divided country with two countries inside one.

Meanwhile i finally managed to remember how the Danish song sounds like....well now i think it's pretty nice song....somehow reminds me Shakira's "Whatever whenever" or "Suerte", and still i find this victory very surprising...
of course, i think Lithuania was criminally underrated, but i didn't expect song of this type to get higher place at the ESC...but i can also say that Germany was also criminally underrated, and that's a song i expected to win...
and, my big grower of the ESC night who got stucked in my mind and i didn't take it seriously before is.....Sweden!

After that fabulous Israeli performance got stuck in the semi-2 I suddenly lost all my interest in ESC 2013. But I moderately enjoyed the grand final. Petra Mede was a great host for me and I loved that cabaret number as an interval act. With the exception of some techincal setbacks during the voting I found this one to be a superior production. Of course the horribly unfair determined running order idea notwithstanding.

As for the results, Denmark was an obvious winner for me from the day one and I think it's a really good one too. For the rest of the Top Five, in my opinion Azerbaijan for once deserved its placing, Ukraine had the best vocals of the night so I can forgive that bland song and lame staging, Norway was my total nightmare this year but during the actual performance I kinda warmed up to it and Russia was pure class albeit boring and uninspired.

I'm more than happy that my absolute favorite Anouk hit the top ten. Even before the shows I'd predicted a Kaas/Pastora placing for her and that came true. Marco from the Italy was really good on the night and even though I never believed that his song could have any kind of televoting appeal that night I was almost convinced that he was too good to finish outside the top five. Malta was a total surprise to me but not a conpletely unpleasant one, even though I think it was ultimately overrated.

On the negative side France was grossly underrated but what else is new? I'd have never thought Belgium could come this close to the Top Ten and I still think he should have stayed in the semi even though he's probably "the most improved act" throughout the ESC season. Hungary, my least favorite song and performance this year, hitting the top ten is the worst result of the night for me and I'm afraid we can expect many more non-singers in the ESC during the following years. At the other end of the singing spectrum Romania ending in the upper half was another disappointment to me. Even though he's obviously a great singer with that song and that utterly trashy satging he should have been dead and buried in the semi.

From the final night the other songs ended up more or less where they belonged to: Greece (perfect placing), Moldova (slightly underrated), Sweden (almost perfect placing), Georgia (slightly underrated but I think it's better for the contest that this favorite kinda flopped), Belarus (a little overrated), Iceland (performance-wise underrated but the song is not that great), Armenia (perfect placing), UK (OK, I like the song but Bonnie's vocals were surely less satisfying than Englebert's last year), Estonia (underrated but not shocking), Germany (surprisingly but not undeservedly low), Lithuania (perfect placing), Finland (maybe a few notches underrated), Spain (the song was hopeless and the performance didn't help, but I still kinda like it), Ireland (not my least favorite but still should have stayed in the semi).

It's probably the biggest grower this year. I'm still far from loving it (it's only #22 in my ranking) but when I heard it for the first time my first reaction was a strong urge to punch the guy in the face to make him stop singing. In time I started to somehow enjoy that repetitiveness of the chorus. So I knew for sure that it was impossible for Sweden to be in the top ten this year based on a first impression of their song.

Of course considering you discovered my top 5 I'll have to disagree on Hungary and Norway and agree on Netherlands, France and Italy. as usual, I actually agree a lot on almost everything you said, Sweden, Belarus, Romania, Greece... but I'm currently doing, at last, 2012 so it's now Ian's turn for 2013 ;)

Yes, that's possible, because both France and Hungary gave me a very good impression in the final.  :goodjob: By the way, the guitarrist of Hungary has lived 4 years in Finland because his mother was working in the embassy of Hungary. So, she is a kind of colleague of my mother.  ;) And I was not the only one who loved Hungary in Finland, because Finland gave it 10 pts.   :sing:

Dániel Kővágó was the most beautiful person on the esc stage 2013 :-[ can I meet him?
Finland had the best top 3 of all countries: 8 Netherlands, 10 Hungary and 12 Norway! Best taste! I was going to comment on this in my 2013 analysis ;)

I'm reading the article published by EuroNews about this year's Eurovision Final. I will never again wonder why people from The UK rarely promote any British entries. And yet, I cannot stop laughing.

Quote
So moving swiftly on to Romania, represented by Cezar with the song It’s My Life.
What a relief! At last a true EV entrant. He’s wearing a black glitter dressing gown and the backing BOY dancers are apparently NUDE! And he’s singing in a flasetto. There’s an Eliz I collar too and yards and yards of red silk.
All bets are off. Romania is my HOT HOT fav to win. Dry ice, fireworks, cray NUDE gal dancers… yes, ok they’re wearing NUDIE body suits… but this is classic. We have writhing, drama and a shirt undone to the navel… a WINNER!

Quote
Now how is Our Bonnie to match that? She can sing, we all know that. But has she got NUDIE dancers? And sadly, the dress is on the plain side. Just a tiny bit of chain on one shoulder. She has got some dangling scarves though… but so far just a band playing instruments. No naked people at all. Tut, tut, tut…
The song is called Believe in Me, BTW. Not that it matters, we’re still shaking our heads over the missing OTT Camp.

Quote
ByeAlex is up next, representing Hungary with the song Kedvesem. Not a natural choice as he says he doesn’t like celebrity or glitter or any of that OTT camp stuff.
What IS he doing in this contest? Not a frock in sight. No glitter collar, no NUDIE dancers. No EV W Malf. Nuffin. I LOVE Hungary but this is PATHETIC! He’s a defo for NUL POINTS. And what are those glasses he’s wearing? Did Elton John help him choose those?

Quote
Zlata Ognevich is represent Ukraine with the song Gravity and it’s what she needs because one puff and she’ll blow away. She clearly hasn’t eaten since 1958… which is why she had to be carried on stage by a refugee from Lordi. Wearing a nudie coloured fishtail frock, she’s giving it her all. Well, as much as a gal can have when she hasn’t eaten since… you get the picture.

The best thing out of this is that I've ended up listening to our song again. I don't care what people think of it. It fully deserved its ranking. Ave Cezar!  :)

I think it's not so laughing matter anymore, as every year there is something like that in the UK, as there is always "temporary Terry Wogan" there (i don't think the original one was that funny at all...) , and yes...they rarely promote their entries....and beside that, i think that Bonnie was very underrated, she deserved much better placing!
