MOLDOVA 2013

Moldovan entry for the Eurovisiong Sontest 2013 in Malmö was O mie sung by Aliona Moon.

The song was chosen in the National Final O Melodie Pentru Europa on March 16, among 14 finalists. In the National Final it was performed in English with the title A Million, however it was sung in Romanian both in the offical ESC album and in the contest.

It was composed by last year's Moldovan entrant Pasha Parfeny for whom Aliona Moon was a backing singer in Baku 2012. Parfeny accompanied Moon on the stage in Malmö.

The entry was performed 3rd in the running order in the Grand Final and it finished 11th with a total of 71 points.
It was performed 12th in the running order in the First Semi Final and it qualified finishing 4th with 95 points.

I hope to find her album in the stores one of these days. That's a must have!

Not sure if Aliona lost her voice for 1 second at 1:01 or if there was a technical issue, but this is definitely the best Moldovan entry and none of the other songs this year can come close to it. I can't congratulate the Moldovan team enough for deciding to go for the Romanian version at esc after winning the National Selection with the English version of the song.

Such a pity that Taxi decided to do just the opposite in 2000, performing the English version of their song The Moon at ESC after winning the National Selection with the Romanian version Luna.

In both cases Romanian sounds a lot better.  :)

Absolutely agree!
I still don't get why Romania still insists on English while many other countries have tried at least once in their native language, and Moldova is a GREAT example. of course great by double meaning :)

To be honest I do understand why.  We didn't even manage to get pass through the preselection and qualify for ESC in 1993 and 1996 with the songs in Romanian. Also, look at how bad the entries performed 100% in Romanian did in 1994 and 1998.

In 2007 Todomondo sang part of their song in Romanian. I used to think that that was not much of a song, but the recent entries made me change my views on it.
Also, the half Romanian and half Italian entry performed by Nico and Vlad got a totally undeserved ranking in 2008. Not sure if the song would have done any better if it wouldn't have been the one to actually open the Final.

We will probably have more songs in Romanian competing in Selectia Nationala next year as people have a tendency of copying what happend the year before at ESC. That if the Romanian broadcaster TVR will be kind enough to confirm Romania's participation. Hopefully they will not postpone the whole thing (read NF) for March again.

Had the juries come back to the final one year earlier that one could have benefitted greatly I believe. It was not a televoting friendly song to begin with and the draw order didn't help at all of course. But it was pure class and is still my favorite Romanian entry. Also my #3 for that year right after Portugal and Serbia, three wonderful ballads.
