United Kingdom 2008 - Andy Abraham - Even If
« on: August 15, 2007, 10:11:41 PM »

UNITED KINGDOM 2008

After 5 consecutive years of very poor results caused mainly by a poor choice of song it's about time the UK took the contest seriously again.

Personally I feel we blew a chance this year by sending Scooch ahead of Cyndi - she may not have challenged or even finished top 10 but I feel she would have got more points than they did.

Any news that I hear I will update this thread.

In the meantime - who would you like to see representing the United Kingdom.....and be realistic anyone with any trace of success would not be seen dead doing ESC for the UK

*snort*

That's what I like about you Ian! Your sense of humour

Wait... you were serious...  ???

j/k, but honestly, Scooch all the way :cheer: (would have preferred Cindy if that meant Norway would have sent Dusty Cowshit though , norwegians DID blew their chances)

Flyiiiiing the flaggggg alll over the worlddddd flyiiiiiiing the flag for youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu ye ye ye! (fine, I liked the song :P)

Think about it though - a big ballad, well performed......that was Cyndi.

What won the contest -  a big ballad, well performed - who knows.

I personally would have loved to have seen Dusty Cowshit instead of that G:Son rubbish as well :D

Mutya - hmmmm perhaps - but she was always the weakest of the Sugababes live

She was my favourite though, she had more charisma than the others... not a fan of Sugababes by any means, but I was sad when she left...

About suggestions... hmm... I'll try to be realistic...

An Elton John & Madonna duet   , Rolling Stones  :P :P

Being serious... I dunno... what about... eh... any of the X Factor/Pop Idols left overs? Is anybody good between those?

And to your new post... problem is, Cindy hadn't a big ballad... she had a boring ballad, more worthy of doing a Gary O'Shaughnessy than a Marija Sefirovic...

(woah, those were harsh words :D)

Hmm, didn't hear about Maria Jimena Pereyra (checked and I know which show she comes from, but never watched it)

Marcela Morelo is ok I suppose, she has nice pop songs..  doubt the Uk would be interested in her though :D

No doubt we will find some former X Factor contestant - although there wasn't one this year in MYMU.  The one thing I will say is that the failure of the big names (Big Brovaz, Hawkins, LizMcClarnon & Brian Harvey) in this years MYMU will no doubt stop any other big names from entering for fear of humiliation and a definite end to their careers.

Let's get Kerry! If the UK is gonna do poorly, at least do it with somebody likeable :D

With good chances you mean? Eh... dunno... nobody really outstanding in Leona's edition to be honest... Dionne perhaps would be the correct combination of lack of success & possibility of perfoming well...

Yeah Dionne kinda fits into the Jessica Garlick category.  She was evicted early in the first series of Pop Idol then appeared at Eurovision 2 years later when everyone had almost forgotten her :).  I was always impressed with Dionne's performances even though her choice of songs (or those chosen for her) were not always suited to her.  There's a new series of X Factor starting on Saturday :woohoo:

Well, if you ask me, I would prefer an unknown singer to represent us with a GOOD song, but there aren't many, and I guess it won't matter, many great singers too don't want to do ESC and BBC go on about viewing rates and whatever.
And also British people are tasteless and don't look at ESC like other countries, but as one cheesy show where they listen to Wogan very old recycled comments we've all heard before and cheesy songs and neighbour voting blah blah blah... so that's why they vote in the most terrible song out of a bunch of other dull songs by failed pop stars.

:hug1: Thanks Rely - but we're ESC fans and that's the difference.  Most of the people who vote in MYMU do it to get the worst song possible to ESC (at least that's what it seems like  - apart from 2005 where bad as Javine's song was it was the best of a very bad bunch)

Call me crazy but I like Javine's song - it also  reminds me of "My Number One" - Helena Paparizou and .... "I admit" - Sanda Ladosi

Same Diference!

I mean, they would do crap, but what the heck, everybody would end up smiling, dying on over-doses of sugar at the end of their performance...

or vomiting... but well, there are two sides for everything :P
