There would be so much to comment, but I won't comment until tomorrow, when I have more time so that I wouldn't forget anything.  :D Otherwise I like your ranking and can live with it, but Romania and Montenegro I would like to see much higher.  :-\  But tastes are tastes, and everyone has right for his/her own taste,  ;)

20th : Denmark - All night long - Simon Matthew : 052/100
(5*3 + 3*3 + 7*2 + 7*1 + 7*1)
The first impression is that it's a very repetitive entry. The melody sticks to you for a while, but soon enough the song feels like it lasts forever. With irrelevent lyrics, it's definitely not helping Simon. He's got a good voice, and a lot of charisma. He made a good live, because it feels evident that the entry has no pretensions, it's just there to please. Pleasing but no masterwork, it was fair that it qualified.

19th : Russia - Believe - Dima Bilan : 055/100
(6*3 + 3*3 + 5*2 + 9*1 + 9*1)
Dima stays a cutie, but his live stays too elaborated. It lacks the spark and magic. I never thought he'd win but saw him again being a fair runner-up. Anyway, the song has a nice overtone melody and boring lyrics, but again the song never lifts itself up, is this a ballad or a pop? That's even uncertain.. Dima made a fair live vocally, but i doubt he's got a great organ.. well voice. The iceskating was not necessary I'm sure they'd have won without as well. One question remains, what do the backing singers look like? In 2006 already two women were very good but never once the camera shows them in a close up.. so it's the Russian mystery!

18th : Norway - Hold on be strong - Maria Haukaas Storeng : 057/100
(6*3 + 4*3 + 8*2 + 5*1 + 6*1)
A very strange relation: that's what I have with this song. For I liked it at first, in the Norwegian national final, though it wasn't my favorite there. But then I came to dislike it very much. It was too americanized to me, too old fashion, and it was the ballad going right before Poland and both of them qualified to the final. So it wasn't a qualifyer for me. But now looking back, with my new ranking, it moved up a lot, for it is very professional and comes out very well. Even though I am still not a big fan of it, I think it made a fair entry to esc, and still think it was way overrated thanx to the running order.

17th : Belgium - O Julissi - Ishtar : 065/100
(8*3 + 5*3 + 6*2 + 8*1 + 6*1)
What a strange song again from Belgium, who after all tries every year to surprise us. The 2003 effort was their most brilliant in all esc history, and trying yet another imaginary language was fun but much less successful, even to me. The use of imaginary can explain itself only if the song really needs it, but not here. The melody is extremely well written, its retro sound very much pleasing. The live fun, but the dress absolutely horrible, anyway it is quite obvious that this song didn't deserve to stay in the semi-final and should have been saved from the jury instead of Poland. Go Belgium!

I think my country (Belgium) deserved their bad placing. It was absolutely dreadful, and that dress...ugh... ??? it looked like an overgrown mushroom.
Awful!!!!!!!

Anyway, Sandrine should've gone, we would've gotten a better result. Maybe not in the final, but then I could've said with pride, this is the Belgian entry! :D

Hopefully the Walloons won't put us to shame next year (like 2007!)

ah.. you waited to see where your own country would get to comment
well Sandrine was good and a nice girl (I love her comment before the voting "great final only thing missing was Belgium") and a good looking woman too, and even if I like her song I found it way too heavy, i don't think it would have done better ; on the contrary I was extremely fond of Eva Darche's "We Breathe" which would have done better and would have gone a really high placing from me!

Yes, Eva's song was very good! Too bad she didn't sing so good during her performance... :(

16th : Cyprus - Femme fatale - Evdokia Kadi : 066/100
(6*3 + 7*3 + 7*2 + 7*1 + 6*1)
Finally Cyprus managed to send two good songs in a row, a record! This is in my charts their third best song ever at esc ("Comme ci comme ca" (2007) having 68pts and "Genesis" (1998) 67pts) and this was my sister's year's favorite! Put this aside, we finally get something cypriot without it being bad folk song. It's very funny because it plays along with different styles, and the greek language with a french title was very much appreciated. But the live felt into the very typical, and the dress was probably one of the worse. It felt so poor and amateur, like this is what we've found in the trash, will this do? Anyway, a very fine entry from Cyprus, yet nothing excellent..

15th : Netherlands - Your heart belongs to me - Hind : 067/100
(6*3 + 5*3 + 8*2 + 9*1 + 9*1)
The best dutch entry since 1998. We've been long waiting for it, and it finally comes, even though last year's entry was pretty decent, but even more europop than this one. I already knew Hind before, and what I heart showed a decent singer with interesting sound, of course nothing excellent but what to expect in esc these days? However, we have one of the best lives of the year, and undoubtfully one of the best of all europop entries. And even though it might seem to not matter, one of the most prettiest girl of the year! Anyway europop from the West always seems so much better and more professional than europop from the East. It just seems at least modern and refreshing. Something we'd like in clubs, not something that breathes out like eastern german female swimmers back at the Olympics in the 70s: old-fashion, sad and overly-done. I say this is a good entry for modern esc and Netherlands should not be ashamed but enraged that they didn't go through!

I think your review is very good, Morgy. Talking about the Belgian entry, its problem was that it was funny and nice after 1st listening, but no more after 2nd, it started to ge quite boring.  :( I really don't know what makes Belgium to send songs with imaginary languages.  :worry:

About the dress: Singer looked out like a  dancing fly agaric.

Oh yes - there was something that I liked very much in the Norwegian song, so I would put it a couple of places higher.

I am still thinking how high up you are going to have that one song which I don't like at all.  :'( You know the song which I mean, but lets not reveal it still to the other ones. ;)

we all agree about the belgian dress ; even the dress itself hated its own guts and tried to leave the singer's body on the 1st rehearsal but they tried to stick to it and what to happen happened : it looked awful!

I think I know which you're talking about Niko, but aaaah you know me, surprising til the end and sorry to not have Montenegro higher, i know how much you like lether pants :-*

14th : France - Divine - Hind : 069/100
(8*3 + 5*3 + 6*2 + 9*1 + 9*1)
And France goes on in its tour of different entries. But this time, it's not just different. It's interesting, very fresh and more importantly something that's known before hand, that is successful and which relaly has fans. For proof, France is one of the very rare countries without any political or friendly votes except for Andorra and Armenia, who both gave France pts, and all the points France got were from very far away countries, yet countries with something similar: they're all from the same places in Europe. So that means this electro pop song pleased the same kind of ears, the people who are used to hearing the same music on tv or radio : Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Iceland and Poland are all the countries that gave "Divine" pts! A poor voice live, but that was expected, a great fresh melody, someone said to me, things we hear on a truck for ice cream! Funky live with four black small fat women wearing Sebastien's facial hair and glasses! Great carabean that proved that France keeps not taking seriously esc but wants to have fun and please. Hell it pleased me!

It was really nice to see something different from France once again.  :goodjob1: It was really superior to all other big 4 countries and also to that one song which seams to be in your top 13.  :P France has been underrated very many times in ESC and it happened this time again.  :( Anyway. really interesting to see that all Nordic countries ranked it to top 10.  :goodjob1:

Just one question: why did he sing it mostly in English and not in French? I think if he had sung it in French it had been higher up in the results.  ;)

I am intrigued now ... how high is "that" song in your ranking ? Is it in your Top 10 ... in your Top 5 ?

So what you're saying is that only 8 songs were worse than that particular entry ? It is in my Top 24 to be honest ... at least that's a song unlike many other "attempts" that "charmed" us all in the Final.   :-X

Well - I have heard the same song so many times in the history of ESC, always with different lyrics and different singer, that I am already tired with it.  :(  :-[

Well the thing is, he has a new album (great one too, i was surprised) with imo one masterpiece in it, "L'amour et la violence" but the French broadcaster chose "Divine" which is a song already in English. He changed two lines to French because of the whole issue about the language, but the song itself was an English song.. By the way, for those like me fan of this group, BWO said France was their fave of the year (Sweden gave France 6pts)

I don't think Niko and Reylana you're talking about the same song? Niko is talking about the one he hates and Reylana about the one we've been talking about, no?

right.. it's a funny mix up, since no one wanted to mention the song he/she's been referring to.. to make it clear for everyone, Relyana and I have been talking about one song that didn't get ranked out yet, while Niko hates a song that didn't get ranked out yet, but both songs are not the same. ;)
13 songs to go

13th : Moldova - A century of love - Geta Burlacu : 072/100
(7*3 + 7*3 + 7*2 + 8*1 + 8*1)
Well this is one of the songs from the mix up.. the one that Relyana and I have been talking about, one of the rare countries from her region that wasn't yet out ranked and she was curious to see how high it will end up. As my philosophy teacher likes to say, it's the rank of destiny, 13th.. It was a good song, definitely classy and fresh from a country that gave us 3 upbeat entries in the past. It's important to notice that all of their 4 entries were different.. and recieved different successes at esc. How sad that their definitely best entry is the only one that didn't make it to the final! Cute and very thought out live, with the neon lights and the teddy bear, it was moody in all the good senses. We can be sadden by her poor English but not more than that, except that the song could have grown in more tightness. If you want moody jazz, you shouldn't let go of this poppy sound from time to time, I thought the song would have been changed a bit for the esc live to be even more so. Let's not forget it's a 3 mns opportunity only, and only extremeness works for viewers..

Well now - I am happy when I can see this jazz song in 13th place!  :goodjob1: (Niko loves jazz). The presentation was very nice, even if I liked it even more in preview video. But, this song was very different from rest of the songs and by no means a mainstream song. A nice, beautiful song, where music was playing the most important role - as it should always be.
I would give this song 4 stars out of five.  :)

But that one song is still in!  :(
