ESC to come : Belgrade 2008
« on: May 26, 2007, 11:56:28 PM »
After listening to the Hard Rock Hallelujah in 2006, we all thought that we'll watch lots of rock performances in 2007 - wasn't exactly what the reality turned out to be ... instead of a rock year in music we've got the "let's get happy" year but I gotta be honest .... it was better than previously thought

What's your expectation for the ESC to come ?  Will Belgrade 2008 be the ballad's ESC?

I doubt it will be a ballad year, but it will have more ballads than this one, that's for sure  :sorcerer: (and yeah, 07 was fantastic).

I'm highly expectant of Georgia's, Bulgaria's (hey, they've got success with a different style of song) and Hungary's entries for this following year. They all were different and to a certain degree successful, hope to see something similar in quality next year :)

except serbia all the up-tempo/dinamic songs were placed in top 10. So I dont think we will have too many ballads, at least I hope so   ;)

You're right but one can only hope to relive the good old days ... we all saw what happend in 2006 with Lordi and what their kind of joy meant to us in 2007.

It aint that weird actually. People tend to vote what stands up in Eurovision as being different.
Last year they voted a rock (?! :-X) song, this year they voted the opposite.  ::)

by the way .. Welcome on forum ! :goodjob1:

At top10 we had 3 ballads
1.the winner SERBIA
2.Armenia 8th
3.Hungary 9th.
-
11th - Bosnia

from what i remember there is always 3-4 ballads at top10.
To be honest i liked the winner this year but i didnt like the songs much (last year i liked more songs but not the winner  :D :D).
Anyway its good to have different music styles at eurovision

Well, after so many jokes and rubbish songs this year, we have seen that hope is still here and that there is some quality left in this contest.

I hope next year will be a better year in general  :) I'm sure that Serbia will host a great show. :goodjob1:

There'll be two semis?

Hopefully not - if so they say that they will be broadcast at the same time and as fans you want to see all the performances...

There'll be two semis?

So they say .

I've heard rumours that they'll be at different times to give people not involved a chance to watch both.  If they were at the same time which one would the Big 4 vote in

I think that it would be better if the countries already qualified in the Final will not vote in the semis ..and the countries from semi 1 will not vote for the countries from semi 2 and viceversa.  ::)

I still think we should carry on with just one semi final and a final. Although it looks like there are more countries joining (Azerbaijan, San Marino) we would have about 30 countries in the semi alone :o Fans could handle it but average viewers probably can't.

So it's official : 2 semifinals and only the BIG 4 and the host country won't take part in the semis.
It must be really frustrating for the TOP 10 countries of  ESC 2007 (2 - 10 actually).

we all knew that those changes will take place(90%) at ESC 2008 so changes always have some good and some bad things(to be honest i dont care that we will be at the semi..).
The thing i liked most is that the 10th country passing the semifinal will  comeout from the votes from the backup juries each country will have(very interesting  :hi5:).

2008 FORMAT REVEALED!!

Quote from: esctoday.com
eurovision.tv has announced that the proposed changes to the Eurovision Song Contest format have been confirmed by the EBU Television committee. They have also announced that the preliminary date for rehearsals to start is Sunday 11th of May and the preliminary opening date for the press centre and accreditation desk is Saturday 10th of May.
BIG FOUR NEWS CONFIRMED
As revealed by esctoday.com last week, the Big Four countries, along with Serbia, will broadcast one semi final and have voting rights in it. They also have the option to broadcast the semi final that they are not voting in. The semi final draw, taking place at the Head of delegation meeting in January will determine which countries vote in each show as well as which countries participate in each semi final.

All participating countries will be divided into a total of six pots from which half will enter the first semi final, and the remaining countries will participate in the second semi final. The running order of the semi finals and final will be determined in a secondary draw at the March head of delegations meeting. You can read more information here.

BACK-UP JURY VOTE
Eurovision.tv has also confirmed the news that the back-up juries votes will count in 2008. As reported in September by esctoday.com, the new format will see the top nine countries as voted for by the current televoting system qualify from each semi final. After that, the highest ranked song according to the results of the back-up juries will be added, providing a total of ten qualifiers from each semi final. Which two countries qualify via the jury vote and which qualify by televote will not be revealed until after the Eurovision Song Contest final. Read more on this change here.

No changes to the voting procedure for the final have been announced. All participating countries from the final and countries that do not qualify from the semi finals will vote in the Eurovision Song Contest final.

Svante Stockselius, the EBU

A record 43 countries will contest the 2008 Eurovision Song Contest in Belgrade, Serbia. The EBU has this afternoon confirmed the list of countries that will participate at the event. The number beats last year's record of 42 countries despite the withdrawal of Austria. Azerbaijan and San Marino, as previously reported, will make their debuts at the comeptition.

Host nation, Serbia, along with France, Germany, Spain and the United Kingdom will compete in the final on May 24th. The remaining 38 countries will participate in two semi finals of 19 countries to take place on May 20th and 22nd. The top ten from each will participate in the final.

Eurovision Song Contest executive Supervisor, Svante Stockselius states: "We are delighted to see 41 of last year's participating broadcasters for 2008, and we especially would like to welcome the two new participating countries to the contest; Azerbaijan and San Marino.
