Turkey 2009 - Hadise - Dum Tek Tek
« on: January 01, 2009, 04:17:33 PM »

TURKEY 2009

Hadise was born in the town of Mol, near Antwerp in Belgium, on 22 October 1985. Her parents came from Sivas, Turkey and migrated to Belgium where they settled in the town of Mol. Hadise has two sisters and one brother; Hadise's name (meaning 'an event' or 'occurrence'[1]) was her grandfather's idea and was actually intended for Hadise's older sister.
From an early age Hadise knew that she wanted to pursue a career in music, and although she has been a professional singer since the age of 17, she still continued her education and thus gained a BA in Marketing. She is able to speak several languages; Turkish, Dutch, English, French and German, she showed her ability to speak all 5 languages when appearing on the "Ibo Show" on June 20, 2008.
Hadise rose to fame in 2003 when she entered the Flemish version of Pop Idol, at the age of 17. Although she failed to win or even to make it into the semi-finals, she was giving a recording contract after her performance on the show, in recognition of her talent.
She is a good friend of the Flemish singer Kate Ryan, who represented Belgium at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2006.

Welcome to the forum HadiseNL.

As for the song - well I have to say it's all rather predictable

Welcome aboard HadiseNL  :) Thanks for presenting Hadise and feel free to promote your favorite esc artists.

@Ian - I don't mind listening to this kind of predictable songs at all. It's amazing how Turkey and Greece always end up choosing the right songs, isn't it ? Beautiful singers, good voices (at least), charming personalities. Not knowing what kind of surprises we'll have to face soon in other NFs I might as well consider Hadise's entry a good start on the road to supreme enterteiment (Moscow 2009  :P ).

Just because it's predictable doesn't necessarily mean I don't like it.  It remains to be seen how good her voice is as we've not yet seen her live (I believe it was on playback in the video above).  But you're right - Greece & Turkey seem to manage it every year.

A really mediocre shakira wannabe song. Turkey can do much better than this.

Reminds me of Tina Karol and Ani Lorak ... I can see this song doing well at esc. Is not like anyone is asking for a Pavarotti kind of song to win the contest. It all depends on how bad the other competing entries will be.

we were told way back then that Turkey would always be in Turkish.. and now we know that was a lie!
I'm very disappointed. The song is a lot of that euro trash i just hate. The singer's cute and that's all there is to it, the song's totally boring and irrelevant. It would probably do well and might do well, but with juries back we never know and I hope they'll send a clear message to Europe by NOT having Turkey in top 10 for once!

That would be a surprise !  ::)
I, for one, better listen to hundreds of "Dum Tek Tek"s instead of one " Irelande Douze Pointe" (sorry Conor) or "Baila el Chiki Chiki" again.

lol I do agree that I prefer this "song" than just random noises and joke entries.. but then again I just hate this type of "songs" and I won't ever approve to them, at esc or wherever! And well Turkey was only in top 10 in 2007 and 2008 and though the 2007 entry was just HORRIBLE, the 2008 entry deserved actually better than its 7th place! So Turkey though it's often overrated, isn't that often in the top 10 and we can hope that 2009 will put an end to it! (let's not forget that Turkey and Armenia always get 10 and 12 from France, Belgium, The Netherlands and sometimes Germany because of their population.. with juries..)

I am sorry, but this song gives me a headache.  :(

Why did Turkey not choose any Turkish singer or band, because there are for example very many great soloists and bands in Turkey ?

Well, it's not the most inspired song of all... but at least it's better than Paparizou ('s 2nd attempt). Ok-ish, for now, will probably get lower in my rankings as more songs get selected (at least I sure hope so)

This might be true, but the damn refrain from My Number One just destroyed any chances whatsoever of me ever liking that song. The music in the whole ''You're the one, you're my number one'' part of the song is just criminal, IM(not so)HO.

Heh, it's just less irritating than My number one for me. That gets it higher than the greek entry, but it doesn't make Dum tek tek any good (which it isn't, really) :P.

I like this song. It's better than the entries from Turkey in 2007 and 2008.
