sorry again to be an ass, but the title is "S'il fallait le faire" at least officially in the album and from Patricia Kaas' site.. now I don't know why All Kinds Of Everything has it as "Et s'il fallait le faire" but don't get your info wrong ;)

I must say.. I hate saying this but.. France is the best.
For a big western country to finally get that Esc is about music and being yourself, sending the music your country loves, being honest and truthful to music. Then what the heck for results. "Divine" was on that line. But they decided this year to not go "what the heck with the results" and actually send something that sounds French to a foreigner (don't I even hear an accordion at some pt?) but that is very Patricia Kaas like. Therefore she'll be very comfortable performing it. And let me warn you right now. She's a hell of a performer (else she wouldn't still be around after 30 years career with many fans including young ones!)

I am still expecting from one of the 32 countries to go something huge and awesome.. but I can't consider Patricia Kaas on esc level. I've known her since I was a kid and never associated that kind of music to Eurovision. Thinking that Pat will be ranked on the same scoreboard than "Dum tek tek" is already an insult!

But I could see why people wouldn't like the song. But every once in a while, having a "song" makes all the difference.

S’il Fallait Le Faire [If It Had To Be Done]

S’il fallait le faire, [If it had to be done,]
J'arrêterais la terre ; [I’d stop Earth from turning ;]
J'éteindrais la lumière [I’d turn off the light]
Que tu restes endormi. [So that you’d stay asleep.]

S'il fallait pour te plaire [If to please you i’d have to]
Lever les vents contraires, [Raise the backwards wind,]
Dans un désert sans vie, [In a motionless desert,]
Je trouverais la mer. [I’d find the sea.]

Et s'il fallait le faire, [And if it had to be done,]
J'arrêterais la pluie ; [I’d stop the rain ;]
nous ferons demi-tour, [We’ll turn backwards,]
pour le reste de nos vies. [For the rest of our lives.]

S'il fallait pour te plaire [If to please you i’d have to]
T’écouter chaque nuit, [listen to you every night,]
Quand tu parles d'amour [When you talk about love]
Je parlerais aussi, [I’d speak too,]
Que tu regardes encore, [So that you’d look once more,]
Dans le fond de mes yeux, [In the depth of my eyes,]
Que tu y vois encore, [So that you’d see once more,]
Le plus grand des grands feux, [The tallest of all tall fires,]
Et que ta main se colle sur ma peau, [And so that your hand would stick to my skin,]
Où elle veut. [Wherever it wants to.]

Un jour si tu t'en vas, [One day if you leave,]
Je suivrais si je peux [I’d follow if I could]
Et s'il fallait le faire, [And if it had to be done,]
Je repousserais l'hiver [I’d push back winter]
À grand coup de printemps [Fighting by punching springs back]
Et de longs matins clairs. [And long bright mornings.]

S'il fallait pour te plaire [If to please you i’d have to]
J'arrêterais le temps, [I’d stop time,]
Et tous tes mots d'hier [And all words coming from yesterday]
Reste à moi maintenant, [Stay mine from now on,]
Quand je regarde encore, [When I look again,]
Dans le bleu de tes yeux, [In the blue of your eyes,]
Que tes deux mains encore [So that both of your hands once more]
Se perdent dans mes cheveux. [Would lose their way out my hair.]

Je ferais tout plus grand, [I’d make everything bigger,]
Et si c'est trop peu, [And if that’s not enough,]
J'aurais tords tout le temps [I’d always be wrong,]
Si c'est ça que tu veux. [If that’s what you want.]

Je veux bien tout donner, [I’m willing to give everything]
Si seulement tu y crois. [If only you’d believe it.]
Mon coeur veux bien saigner, [My heart’s willing to bleed,]
Si seulement tu le vois, [If only you’d see it,]
Jusqu'a n' être plus rien  [Until it’s nothing more]
Que l'ombre de tes nuits,  [Than the shadow of your nights,]
Jusqu'a n' être plus rien,  [Until it’s nothing more,]
Qu'une ombre qui te suit, [Than a shadow following you,]
Et s'il fallait le faire… [And if it had to be done…]

Sorry man. Just did a quick copy paste job off the youtube video  :-. France continue to show why they're the best ESC country with this song.

Magnificent lyrics, great melody, wonderful vocals...a true tour de force.  It's entirely possible that France will do well in my charts at the end of the selections.

As I see im the only one who dont like that at all  :-\
You don't have to be sorry at all, if you prefer ignoring something close to 1500 years of French Literature (since the Middle-Ages that French was used in the medieval farces and Christian mysteries, and then the amazing Renaissance poetry, the Classical tragedies, the Enlightenment satires and criticisms in tales and the Encyclopedia, first to unite all knowledge to man kind of the time, the XIXth century filled with Romanticism but then as the century grew stronger into the Republique, the Industrial world with a literature that seek both a social realism and an evasion into symbollism, and then the XXth century, resistance, committed..) Ignoring the country that has had the most Nobel prizes in Literature above the USA, Uk, Germany and Spain.. Ignoring the language known with the Italian one as the lovers' language.. Ignoring the language in which was written the 1789 Constitution that philosophy since Kant considers as the first important step in mankind as Freedom for the people..

Of course that is one way to look at it.. There are many others. For one, I don't think any language is better than another one. All the examples above are signs of French as not such a LAME language as you want it to be. We could do close to the same to many other languages. All are worth it, because all have the power to unite people above the same way of thinking. And there isn't one better than the other one. You might not like the sound of it, though I don't know why, you can't deny its glorious history and power, still an official UN language..

I love Estonian and like very much many Estonian songs I got to hear that were not esc. I can't believe that Estonia keep choosing esc songs that are not in Estonian. That's one way to tell the world, well yes, we can't sing in it, it's awful, let's stick to American English and have horrors like "Look through my window".. 2008 was one step above that, and 2009 Estonian NF has definitely many great songs in Estonian. Let's hope that this will continue.

As for IJM, you say all these nice things about France but then end up having it outside your top 5, preferring a ROMANIAN **** that has no lyrics (unless you call THAT lyrics), no melody except for shaky shaky, and an awful live! geez.

There's plenty of time to change.  We still don't know the ESC version of Patricia's song yet...and unfortunately I find the Romanian song rather infectious :-[
