Greece 2009 - Sakis Rouvas - This is our night
« on: February 19, 2009, 01:59:24 AM »

The song "This is our Night" won the Greek selection. This is my new 12 points, but Moldova is very close to it. I bet not many on this forum will like it.  :P

And your thoughts would be completely correct.

Not the worst entry we have so far, but it's one of the worst... so uninspired, so incredibly repetitive (as opposed to catchy) and so destined to an upsetting failure that is not even funny.

not to mention that the NF was all playback as usual with Greece, meaning that Greeks were robbed to judge fairly and that it tried to cover sadly the fact that Sakis is no singer, only a performer. Ok he's a good performer, he knows how to move his hips around, hell he even shaved his chest hair tonight to make him better. I still don't like his face, he's too manly on face and then too flamboyant in dancing. I don't get the fuss. All the greeks i know hate him, and I'm glad about that. I guess his a teen fame.

The song is well described by Lonter. It's way better than Romania or Turkey (awfully performed by Hadise in the greek NF!), but it's no way near a top 10 level to anyone of us (Lonter, My Star, Niko, me..) who share that same exquisite preference for music quality and not the shaky trashy!

The Greek channel has taken the decision lately to always get top results with the shitty pop. I hope the juries will help this year Greece understanding that this isn't key to success. It's time Greece stays out of top 10.

Positive aspect? This is times and times and times better than Kalomira and her crap from last year, which I just can't stand.

I like the song...but i waited more from Sakis
But all these three songs wasnt so bad but not good too
Nobody cant be sure that he can song them to live too because he arent song them anywhere yet...
and that will be pretty bad then the playback wasnt good idea...
The dance moves are also pretty weird  :P

I don't quite know what to make of it to be honest.  As usual Sakis almost over-performs it...and there's that weird bit at the beginning where it almost stops before he sings "fly to the top" is just odd to say the least.  However as Martial said it's certainly an improvement on Kalomira....but it's still trash....but it's better than Turkey.

@ Martial - why wasn't I included in your list of people with exquisite taste :mda: :P

Sorry Greece but "that" won't be your night. The song is just a "been there, done that" kind of song, it's way too repetitive and there's nothing worth mentioning, nothing worth remembering (good or bad).

"OUR" entry  :D
The song is ok(nothing special.i only like Sakis ballads...)
BUT
Atleast for me he has a charisma onstage he "shines" so if everything is done RIGHT he will be OVER the song as Paparizou - Kalomira  ;)
7,8/10 for Sakis.. :P

i hope not and actually think that the song is lame enough to be ignored by Europe who will probably prefer Spain or even Turkey?

This one reminds me too much of schlagers... will do a Charlotte, not a Carola (with the exception that Sakis has never won in the past and isn't from Sweden)

Hey, Romania and Turkey are in my top 5 :P

I don't like Greece actually, I loved Kalomoira but this is quite horrible.

Hi everyone!! =)
Just wanted to say that
You are very wrong..

There is no Greek that hates Sakis :)
Both women and men like him because he is just great
and he s not just a good performer, he has a great voice as well
You should hear him sing a ballad...

Hi Jane000 - welcome to the forum.  Hope you enjoy yourself here :)

Firstly - I've heard Sakis sing ballads and he has a good voice I agree.  Trouble is that the song he has here is an uptempo song and he showed yesterday night that he doesn't have the voice to sing and perform an uptempo song at the same time.  The performance was absolutely great :) - the vocals were not :(

get real! different taste exists.

So do different opinions Morgan  :)

Unlike Romanians that every so often are tearing their artists apart (unfortunately), Greek people passionately support their artists (even when they don't really love them). Some Greeks might not like Sakis but I find it hard to believe that anyone hates him ... after all he's officially the hottest guy on Earth (for both women and men) .... didn't you know that ?  :P

you too then should become more aware than different taste DO EXIST. I know at least two greeks who hate him with a passionate, hate what he does to greek music, what he does live and were very mad and ashame that he got selected to represent their country. It's time you realize it's not because on the Internet many Greek people adore sakis for his looks and think that what he does can be considered "music" than it means ALL of them do.

And both of my Greek friend and ME as well think he is the ugliest man of the esc 09 contest, far from the cute Lithuanian guy.

HI Ijm123 and Relyana and thank you for welcoming me :)

you too then should become more aware than different taste DO EXIST. It's time you realize it's not because on the Internet many Greek people adore sakis for his looks and think that what he does can be considered "music" than it means ALL of them do.

Excuse me but I think you are a little arrogant and very strong opinionated..

First of all just because "This is our night" was a bad song (at least for me it was terrible)
this doesnt mean that all of his songs are bad...Have you even listened to his other songs?

And also, I can tell you with confidence that 90% of greek people like him (everyone for different reasons)
but definitely you will not hear someone say that he hates him....

Lastly, I understand that not everyone will be attracted to him, because there are different tastes
but CAN YOU HONESTLY SAY THAT HE WAS THE UGLIEST GUY????

Sorry but I find it soooo hard to believe that it shows a bit of mpathy

Excuse me but I think you are a little arrogant and very strong opinionated..
neither of them are bad features in my very humble and personal opinion

First of all just because "This is our night" was a bad song (at least for me it was terrible)
this doesnt mean that all of his songs are bad...Have you even listened to his other songs?
i have many esc fans in my contact lists and many who like these type of songs and many who sent me billion of his songs through youtube so that i could hear more of Sakis. I have still never heard a single one i liked

And also, I can tell you with confidence that 90% of greek people like him (everyone for different reasons)
but definitely you will not hear someone say that he hates him....
then you're a country that has very little different opinions and that sounds very boring. But thank my many other greek friends I know better and really doubt you know all there is to know in your own country. I never assumed anything as stupid as thinking that everyone in France loves Patricia. Like many singers, people are divided about her. Same goes for Sakis. And I am ABSOLUTELY SURE that the two greeks i know HATE Sakis WITH A PASSION. Once more, I can bring them to you if you can't believe it.

Lastly, I understand that not everyone will be attracted to him, because there are different tastes
but CAN YOU HONESTLY SAY THAT HE WAS THE UGLIEST GUY????
I said he was one of the uglist. To me the fact that he thinks himself as a hot guy who did a big show just about himself and his jumping, and pushing his breast and all was ridiculous and makes me find him disgusting. In all due respect though, if he went "natural" looking, he wouldn't be that horrible. And truly there are guys who are uglier in the esc 09 contest, but all of them didn't try to pretend they were sex bombs (Czech Republic, Belgium, Denmark..) but there are definitely hotter guys (Slovakia, Lithuania or Norway)
