Congratulations Norway!

The winner of Eurovision Song Contest 2009 is now known! Congratulations to Norway's Alexander Rybak who won the contest with a magnificent new record breaking points total of 387.

The Belarussian born musician Rybak won the song contest with his own song "Fairytale". The song was performed 20th in front of a huge crowd in Moscow's Olimpisky Indoor Arena. In the end, Rybak won in convincing fashion and was emotional as Lys Assia and Dima Bilan presented him with the winner's trophy. He also recieved an enormous amount of 12 points, with 16 countries rewarding him the maximum. All countries voted for Norway, as they received not a single 0 points.

In second place came Iceland's Yohanna, after a wonderful performance of her ballad "Is It True". The 18 year old received an impressive total of 218 points, equalling Selma's 2nd place with "All Out Of Luck" in 1999 as the North Western European island's best result.

Azerbaijan, in their 2nd year in the contest also finished strongly, completing the top 3 with their song "Always" performed by Aysel and Arash. The duo's uptempo number brought them a total of 207 points.

Turkey, who have one of the best records in recent contests continued their fine form, as Hadise propelled them into 4th place with her song "Dum Tek Tek".

Recent poor finishers United Kingdom rounded up the top 5, as the Big 4 nation managed to break their run of poor results. Jade Ewen, singing the Andrew Lloyd Webber composed "My Time" finished up in 5th place, with a total of 173 points, despite a slight mishap in which she was hit by one of her violinists.
